Love it! Welcome back Tommo!

We've caught some really good river snapper off number one at night, still to get one in an estuary. I am heading south for a camping weekend with the family next month, will chat to you before then to get some ideas of what lures to take if you don't mind? Don't actually know where, but I think in the region of the Kei River.

The in my humble opinion the Kei has the best estuaries on the east coast by far! Lets hope they stay that way as I've noticed signs of deterioration in quite a few over the last 10 years and they are probably the last decent nursery grounds left for the major edibles that roam our coast.

Out of interest, did you see or hook any skipjack? I didnt see any mentioned in the catch list? Most of the rivers used to hold decent numbers of them, but like most places, they disapeared the last few years. Some have been taken in east London, so wondered about the kei rivers. The skitter walks etc should ahve got them interested, and I used to catch good numbers of them on fly when the water was discouloured from rain.

Hi Adam

No skippies at all. I was keeping an eye out for them, but no sign whatsoever of any skippies in either of the rivers I fished, which is sad. There used to be a lot in the one river and I have caught them there on mirrOlures in the past. They are definitely getting scarcer in our rivers. A mate of mine phoned me from PE the other day and said he had had an awesome session with skippies down there, so that is encouraging. I think that skippies prefer a river with a deep mouth, and that is the problem these days, all the rivers are getting shallow in the mouth area.

CLS, I didn't have a cameraman along on this one, but did shoot some footage in January on a transkei estuary, so we will do a show on that one. Doing a shoot up at Vidal this coming week on some surf fishing, so hopefully you guys will get to enjoy a bit more local content on Inside Angling...

Awesome report there Tommo. I love fishing the Wild Coast rivers with a small inflatable and a electric trolling motor. Even the blind rivers hold some nice fish.

I've only now found out where I am going next weekend (I've been busy!) - apparently it's a place called Double Mouth, close to Morgan Bay. Anybody been there? Looking at google earth it seems to have a nice lagoon, and also a beautiful beach and some good rocky structure. Hoping to get in some diving and R&S fishing, but would like to spend most of the time fishing the lagoon with my 7 year old daughter (so it will be a mixture of bait and artificials).

Has anyone been here? Is the lagoon in a decent condition?

The lagoon was closed the last time I've been there. It is however one of the better lagoons I have fished before. It is very deep at some places (deepest 14m). I've caught alot of cob, flathead and rock cod there and have been busted up by what could only be big River Snapper. We only fished with live mullets but I am sure there must be some grunters. I am going back there the end of the year. Try the beach in front of the mouth. It is a very nice place for cob and pignose grunters. Give me a call if you need more info. I will send you a PM.
