Rory - is Eastco -the same road as Woelwaters ?? and whats damage at Eastco?

Quick, I'm not to sure where Woelwaters is, but Eastco is on the R500 just before Parys. If my brittle memory serves me correctly, the Aunty charges per vehicle and per person. I'm sure Herman will remember the figures!

Guys I'm concerned that the flow rate is not going to drop enough to allow us to fish properly. I think the first run at Eastco will be fishable in stronger flows though, but we'll only really be able to tell when we get there.

So I'm thinking that even if the flows are too high to fish we should still make an outing of the Saturday regardless, seeing as though most guys have committed. There are some very experienced guys joining us and we can pick their brains, discuss setups and techniques etc. have a braai and socialise?

And you all say?????

Most of the tackle shops have a dedicated section for yellowfish flies. The tried and trusted would be along these lines:
Hot spot Mayfly nymphs #14 - #16
San jaun worms #14 - #16
Gold ribbed hares ear nymphs (natural, black and olive) #14 - #16
Green rock worms (also look for grey, peacock and natural) #10 - #12
Mutard caddis #10 - #12

While you at the tackle shop, get some strike indicators, a spool of .22mm Maxima and don't be scared to bring the split shot! Don't buy the tapered leaders for fishing the Vaal.  w;k

Generally the flies aren't too pricey if you buy the packs of 3.
When you look at the custom tied flies, they gonna rip you a new one. swr

Have a look at the list I posted, that should sort you out. I'll tie up a span of Humpy's Favourites to dish out.
I'll try convince Herman, Koos and Nico to tie some good control flies to bring with. Nudge, nudge, nudge, hint, hint........

Sorry for being absent for a while. sry

Rory's list of flys covers the range for any venue on the Vaal. I think his best tip was, don't forget the splitshot. :clwn. If you see you are not getting down, it's so much quicker to clinch a shot on than change flies. Also heavier flies, normally = bigger flies, and then you may just be outsizing the food.

As far as damages are concerned, the last time we were there, it was R150, for 2 people.
There is a rate per vehicle, plus per person.
Seeing that this is am epic trip, I will phone them during the course of the week, and see if I can't get a " BULK DISCOUNT".  w;k

If anyone is wanting directions, but can not join the convoy from the Engen 1 stop on the N1 Sth to bloem, let me know where you are coming from, and I'll do my best to get you there.

OH HELL. I've just remebered that SALOON 2000 is open on Saterdays. :happ: Is anyone going to get home on Sat night. SWAMBOS = :unhap (bat :vio
If we caught fish on every trip, it would be called " Catching". We don't, and that's why it's called "Fishing".
