Author Topic: 15kg Class rods for my TLD25's (Read 13135 times)

Ok, as you know I'm selling my Shimano Trevala Heavies as they are a bit unbalanced on the bulky TLD 25's (The trevalas are great rods but the TLD 25's are just too big for them)

I need 3 rods to pair the TLD 25's with, exlusively for trolling.

I cannot afford anything shiny so I need to look at fair priced rods.

Suggestions? I had a look at the Penn Tuna sticks at R700 a rod. Look decent but they only have 1 roller , rest guides.
Should I go for a rod that is rollers all the way? Remember I have spooled 15kg mono all the way (So NO braid issues here)

I wouldn't worry about roller eyes for 25 pound tackle what makes all the difference with the TLD 25 reels is having a gimble butt on the rod which lets you get your crank on with out the rig twisting in your hands. My brother had our rods for the TLD 25's custom made at the purglass factory if I remember correctly they were more or less in your price range give him a shout

Not sure what happened here. My post dissappeared so here I go again.

No runners required on 30 pound. Will only cause you trouble. The rod I would suggest is a Shimano Beast Master MH. It has the backbone, 7 foot allowing for some livie action (couta) and they have a gimbal but. Should come in on budget as well.

Have you looked at the King Fisher Poseidon series rods? I have a few and they are nice rods.

Another rod on a budget I have always liked, strong, well put together, maybe a little short at 6'5 but a great rod at a great price is the Paddle Ski pro! Best part is they only cost about R380 or so!

You know what guys, something is happening at my local tackle shops. I'm not talking Ganies, I'm talking about the shops in Pta.

It seems that they are not ordering in any deepsea tackle at all. Economy or whatever, who knows. Bottom line is I have run to 5 stores to get 2 spools of Berkley Big game.

the 1 store has 2 tiagra 30/50 (very old rods) and the other the Penn Tuna sticks. Nothing else. So maybe I'll pick some up in Durbs on my way to Vidal.

Forget rollers on 15Kg, a stunning rod is the Tiagra 20/30, I had them (Stolen) and still have 1 left.
Excellent for trolling, huge Back bone you could actually use 50lb on them, and awesome pulling power for fish running deep. only 5'6" and so low strain on the back also. Has a gimbal which is a must for bigger fish and long fights and a solid reel seat.

Highly recomended.

i have some special made couta sticks may have a few if you interested they 2m with gimbals, you looking for glass or composite rods will take a few photos today have some great whipping sticks aswell as people who wanted never came a picked them up.

For trolling use the proper tackle and get short sticks, you then have the right tool for the job and be able to land big game fish much better, use couta tackle for couta and use the right tackle for big game.
