Was working on my trailer with the radio on... Oliver released a marlin, Stella had a dying marlin (tail wrapped) on revival for a long time but the bill eventually  died... It will no count as rules say it must be released or be at least 500 Lbs... A few strikes here and there...

Let's wait for peter's report for more details...

Ps: saw quite a few boats launching to Inhaca for the Challenge...

due to skipper decision we didn't launch

Oliver won the competition after releasing a marlin
second place was Dan Dan with sailfish release + 18.3kg wahoo + 18kg YFT
they had 3 sailfish on the lines at the same time...with only skipper and 1 deckhand on board
each of them was fighting a fish and the remaining rod/reel was running out of line
unfortunately one of the sailys got free and unluckily cut the line of other sailys..
they had another saily strike
nakisai also released a sailfish and caught a 22kg wahoo plus some couta
stella released a saily and caught a 70ish kg marlin (didn't count)

loads of nice size couta (avg 16kg) were caught, some nice big bull dorados (20 kg) but avg weight for the YFT came down (they must be running away from the area)
biggest fish was a 29kg wahoo

Number1 crew is joining Cormorant for the challenge in Inhaca..tight lines for the only Mozambican team!!!

Correct gentlemen, marlin got tailwrapped and died. Took a live tuna, jumped about 10 times and took us 30 minutes to bring it in. We tried to revive it for 45 minutes, it didnt work, I called it in to boat it afterwards. Rather be honest and sleep well at night then to fake a release or come up with camera issues excuse for release. Great day regardless of comp or not.

Sailie was later on, there were a few jumping around in front the boats at one time.

Good wake up call for the tourney comittee, a marlin and sail must win a comp. Theres a big diff in killing a fish for sake of it (done it b4 unfortunately) then having a dead fish come next to the boat and nothing can be done about it.

Plenty of small tuna around, within the 4kgs range.

Inhaca day 1 theres a strong south, no comp today, we fish tomorrow.

Only two boats from Moz, Stella(Naval) and Cormoran (maritimo). Think theres 2 or 3 from Inhaca.

Some great catches from all that managed to wet a line.

Did the boat that won only get a Marlin or some other species too?

How did you go for Datsun?

Sorry guys.... I've been a bit tied-up this morning... Some of us poor unfurtunate souls have to EARN our salaries ;o)

Well we were 5-up on Oliver (Cobra Cat 900)
Diamantino - Skipper
Paulo - Captain
Datsun - Crew
Albano - Junior (15 Years old)
Nomade - Assistant (Ghilly)

We ran out with all the usual suspects, as the comp commenced, all to our respective "secret grounds"
The first order of the day was to look for a Saily. We had a Halco (secret collours ) in the spread and it wasn't long before it produced the first pull of the day. After a quick fight we boated a small YFT which we should have pulled for a Marlin, but we thought that it might weigh, so we kept it, as we have not weighed a YFT for the tournament. Sadly, the little Tunny fell just short of the required 5Kg mark.

After re-setting the spread and remaining in the general area, we duffed another pull, which seemed like a much better fish..... such is fishing.

We decided to move to deeper water, pulling the same spread (targeting Saily's) we had a double strike and managed to boat both fish, a 9Kg- and a 22Kg Dorado.

We continued to look for Saily's for another hour or so, with no takers, we decided to move to the deep and target that ellusive Marlin.

Having pulled kona's for a couple of hours with no strikes, it was time to change tactic's.... SKIP-BAITS!

Within 10 minutes of pulling 2 skip-baits, the port-side outrigger popped....
10 seconds of heart-thumping silence.... a lazy few rurns of the reel.... more heart-thumping.... then..... ZZZZZZZZZZ THAT SOUND WE ALL LOVE TO HEAR... ZZZZZZZZ Set the drag to STRIKE, Some throttle on the motors.... Marlin jumps about 40 meters behind the boat. That's it, the hook is set. Throttle back, clear the other lines, clear the deck, put the joungster in the chair, and the fight begins. After a good few jumps and a few scary moments and about 45 to 50 minutes the fish was released successfuly! That's it boys! We are on the board!!! Well done to Albano!!! His first Marlin, at age 15!

Why stop backing the winning horse? Our last remaining skip-bait is set, on the starboard rigger, and 2 Rap's on the port-side. Not 20 minutes later, a bill appeared on the skip-bait! Strike 1.... another strike!... 3'rd strike..... NOTHING!!! Damn!!! What happened?? Wind the bait back.... It is crushed to a pulp. The outrigger did not pop, so the fish never swallowed the bait, meaning there is not much chanse of a hookup (with a circle hook). I suspect it was a Saily, but that is purely speculation.

By now it is almost 15h00. Set another spread of Kona's and work our way back to the weigh-in at Maritimo.

Passing a few bait-balls on the way back, we were very hopefull, but for naught. No more pulls for the day.

After all's said and done, it was a great day at sea. Good weather, good company, and a good haul.
