poor weather and fishing in the transkei
« on: January 05, 2011, 03:37:02 PM »
i spent a week in the transkei up till the 3rd jan. Unfortunately the much needed rain arrived along with a years supply of east wind. Beach with the kids was out for most of the week. I got 2 sea 3 times. The family had caught some decent coppers early on the holiday so i?didnt try 4 any. We trolled 1st day 4 about 4 hrs wothout a touch. Sea was green and around 21deg. A boat launched when we beached and within 5 min wer e into a decent dorry. They ended witj 2 lost 1 and   dropped a small black marlin. Next day we went again. 4 boats out. We found a decent current scum line and got a decent 12kg dorry and 2 small yft. We called the other 3 boats in as they had nothing elsewjere. We all worked the same area and we got 4 more dorado between  8 and12 kg. We let 2 go. One got taken by a marlin and came back with a hole in its gut. A south east started blowing and it was bucketing so we called it a day. Sea temp started dropping immedoatly. We raised a sizeable marlin on way in but it just had a look and left. The other boats did not go well except 1 raised a marlin ans another 5ot 2 drries. The sea was down 2 17 deg by nextam. We tried agai  on the 2nd in pouring rain but sea was 18 deg and muddy to 15 km out. We tried bottom fishing briefly but nothing. I cut holiday short by 4 fays due to bum weather. Grumpy is an inderstatwment.
