Mugged at Centenary Park - Port Alfred
« on: December 13, 2010, 08:55:04 PM »
Hi Gents,

Just letting you know that I got mugged by 5 chaps today at Centenary Park in Port Alfred whilst pumping prawns. Being new to the area, I didnt think it was an issue considering I've fished the Richards Bay area for years without hassle. Turns out it is known as a no go area locally, but me having only lived here a month missed the memo.

Dont make the same mistake I did. They made off with my car radio and phone, but I got my car keys and sim card back with a bit of sweet talking. They seemed amateurish but I wasnt taking chances with there being 5 of them. Let them have what they want, unless you have a gun, then shoot them in the feet!!! swr

Cheers

BM

Thanks Gents,

Im no hero, and none of which they took was worth getting stabbed over. Like you said, I can get new electronics. Its more the thought that I cant go pump prawns in peace that bothers me.

I like to look at it in the way that they felt they needed 5 guys to take me on. Helps dampen the pride knock I took at having to undo the radio myself and hand it over....MORONS!!!!!

Thanks again guys

Bastids!!! Glad you are OK!!! I would also think twice about taking you on without at least 4 buddies :lolo:

It is actually just infuriating that we have to constantly worry about where we go to practice our sport!

Not good to hear , my folks used to stay in P.A quite a while back and even then vehicles were been broken into at Centenary park , looks like theyve gotten a bit braver since then , sad i tell that u cant even go wet a line on your own nowadays even in a built up area... at least they left u alone BM and only took some electrics off you.

Thanks Guys,

@jaenswart - seems I chose the worst spot in town to pump prawns. Every time I tell someone local I get that "oh did you really go to centenary park" look. Looks like I need to research on UA a bit more before exploring.

@Cam - they actually did. I hadn't pumped before they bothered, and in my rage and rush I left the lttle bakkie of prawns by the water. Maybe they will still be there and I can fetch them on route up the river this evening.

@Reefs - Whenever we fished anywhere north or south of richards bay on the beaches, KK would always bring his CZ, and other guys would generally have at least one armed individual with them. I don't necessarily promote edc'ing a pistol with you whenever and wherever you are, but once I can apply, I will own one to carry when heading to remote fishing areas etc. The story would have ended very differently had I been carrying the glock I wish  owned.

@Homie - When you come down we can sit in the car and wait. If anything happens, we can just phone inspector Sithole!!!

@Rods - Who would have thought that having never been bothered in richards bay that it would happen in my first prawn pumping trip here in sleepy port alfred. I used to pump prawns twice a week, be it alone, in the evening etc, and was never bothered. I'll come visit one holiday and we can make a plan to fish together. I've yet to hook a decent fish off the pier!

Thanks guys
