FG Knot for jigging
« on: February 10, 2026, 09:51:46 AM »
Have not posted here in ages, so here goes.

We are doing another trip to Primeiras Banks in June and I have a problem that I need to solve.

Last year, we were bitten off by shoal size barracudas more often than not, we lost a lot of lures in the process. Now that problem is not that they bit us off on the lures, or even the leaders, they bit us off on the FG knot, you would feel a small tap and the entire leader, with steel and lures would be gone. There had to be a bubble trail of some sorts on the FG knot where they bit us off.

I would like to be prepared this year  - I've read that some of the Aussies wind dental floss around their knots to dull them and make them more bite 'resistant'. Perhaps I should try Loon Knotsense? We are definitely moving over to PR knots this year, that may solve the problem?

Anyway, anyone experienced something similar and found a solution to the problem?

I don't think any of those solutions would work against sharp teeth and it might bulk up the knot making it more visible. Did you notice any differences in which colour braid was at the knot? Barracudas like anything bright or flashy, maybe try a black braid, or use a black marker pen.
