Going to try something new- Lure fishing- New date 19.02.2022
« on: February 08, 2022, 10:54:52 AM »
Good morning Guys

So this upcoming weekend, I have a chance to do some fishing.
I recently sold some of my tackle and purchased some light/medium spinning tackle.
The rods & reels I currently have are.
7ft Sensation purple stick spin rates 8-17g - matched to an Okuma ITX 3000h- 15lb braid
9ft Assassin aurora 10-45g - matched to an Okuma Azores 4000h- 20lb braid
And the Assassin Amia Zero 28-60g - matched to a Daiwa 20 exceler 5000 - 20lb braid

Because I am very new to this type of fishing, I want to take the Aurora and the Azores, 15lb braid with 30lb Fluoro leader.
I have perfected the FG knot to my liking and tested the knot in the past year while surf fishing, no break offs at the knot to date.

I will be fishing around the Bluff (Ansteys walking left and then right towards Brighton beach)
Reason for this as I stay 8 mins away if I am in the Bluff weekends.
I have most of my stuff ready, the lure bag, cap, UV scarf and arm guards and beach shoes.
Will carry water and snacks.

The only reasons why I wont go, is if it is raining heavy and if there is unfishable wind, so I am committed to make this work.
I am not guaranteeing myself that I will be catching fish, I want to go try this type of fishing and have fun while doing it.

I know many of you guys here are well experienced in this aspect but I am not and it is going to be a learning curve.

Hopefully this weekend I will get a chance, I will update after.
I know its only Tuesday, but I am already imagining reeling in the fish.

Hey, Preno!

Welcome to the wonderful world of surf lure angling!! You have some nice setups there! A great part of this wonderful aspect of angling is being able to visit many, sometimes new, venues. You end up moving around a lot, so you can really enjoy fresh surroundings and beautiful views. Sometimes your morning walk will even be interrupted (quite pleasantly) by a greedy fish, and then the enjoyment is complete!

Enjoy your session, be safe, and remember to post pics!

Thank you Guys.
I will definitely post pictures, even if I do not catch, I will post of the area.
I am a bit undecided which set up to take from the 9ft or 7ft.
I will be adding a poll.
Whichever one wins, I will use that set up.
If there is a draw, I will see on that day.

I always take 7ft and 11ft combo to the beach. 9ft I would normally use on a boat.

Thanks, I would take those two rods also, but I just need one for now as I will be walking a lot and so not want to carry a lot of stuff also I do not want to leave a rod unattended while I face the beach.

So quick report

Wife had an unexpected call to work this Saturday, so did not manage to go on Saturday.
Had to baby sit my son.

Went on Sunday to the Bluff, Wind was a bit strong, but decided to go for a throw anyways.
Except for another guy with a spoon there was no one else fishing.
Put on a 1/4 jig head and a jerk minnow, braid wrapped around the ring, while casting due to the wind.
Lost the lure, Tied the FG again,(by then I was the only one fishing) after couple of casts, same thing happened again.
Decided to pack up due to the wind not playing its part.
Estimated loss of R 50.00
Will try again this weekend, hopefully with better results.
I will updated this coming weekend.
I have a question, but will post another topic.

Eish, Preno!

The tackle is only part of the equation! Experience and local knowledge makes it work! That's where I'm lacking! I'm more enthusiastic than good. If I had to live off my catches, I would have starved long ago! I love learning from others. Next time I'm at the South Coast we'll hook up and catch some fooshes!

In the meantime, follow the good guys like "Steenie" and others, who have extensive shore angling experience...

Cheers until then!

Mike

P.S. We did not manage Umdoni last year. Went to Palm Beach near Port Edward.
