Braid to Braid with PR Knot?

I have read several discussions here about using a lighter braid mainline connected by FG knot to a heavier braid casting leader (yes braid to braid using an FG knot).  What I am wondering is can I use  PR knot instead of the FG knot for this braid to braid connection?  I know this is not the recommended use of an FG or PR knot, but many folks here and elsewhere are reporting that they successfully are using an FG for braid to braid.  I am wondering if the PR also is an option for connecting the lighter braid mainline to the heavier braid casting leader.

No one here will giggle at FG for braid to braid leader to mainline connections - it is common practice.

I have some mates that use a PR for the same job, I'll get you some photos and opnions from them, will post here though to share with local guys too.

Some folks here do a braid stitch, but for thin (say US spec #15-20 mainline) it is very fiddly.

How about a improved reverse Albright? I use it for braid to mono/flouro with good effect... And if my diameter of lines differ significantly it works for me so I'm sure it will work with braid to braid...

lol Fishatic.  When I posted that on SOL and said "I have heard others talk about successfully using FG knot for braid to braid connection" I was referring to your posts on SOL!  I would greatly appreciate any info you can provide for the PR knot for connecting braid mainline to braid casting leader.


I believe you and I have a mutual friend from New Jersey John Allen.  I met John fishing in Mexico last year.  He speaks highly of you and specifically told me to follow your advice on SOL (I am a fledgling rodbuilder)!

I replied to a tackle Adviser's question a few days ago concerning the 2 piece conventional stick mentioning the 2pce conventional stick you built for me... Scrolled down a few lines and there was my good mate, Brandon talking about the same stick

Well, I tried a PR knot braid to braid, but it seems like a fail right out of the block.  When spinning the bobbin around the two lines, they both twist around each other, instead of just the mainline wrapping around the leader.  I am having more success with the FG knot for the braid to braid connection, so I guess I will stick with that for now, unless their is a technique out there that will work for the PR knot.

Time to resurrect an old post.
I have had the same experience trying to use the PR knot on two braided lines.
I can manage to make the knot, but I have also noticed the twisting of the two braided lines.


The question is, is this an issue and does it adversely affect the knot strength?


These bobbins are rather pricey, but I do believe it is slightly quicker to tie the PR compared to the FG.

My go to knot after lots of testing is the Yucatan. Super easy to tie and if pulled up really tight is one of the strongest, especially if you tie a bimini twist to make the loop, this setup is often used for targeting marlin and big tuna so good enough for me.
