Guys good day.
Is a Chisel nose plug and a flat face plug one in the same. ???

In short , no .


A flat face plug are flat faced 90 degrees a solid hook angle .all four sides.


A chisel nose are on an angle  30 ,45 degrees. ( on two sides)


You also get a needle nose plug , which are more on an angle tappers towards the front .


I think if you search the forum , reefman had a nice explanation on the plugs.

Seems it is a thing..they are all basically chisel nose plugs, just different variations..much over muchness..they will all catch fish, size more important..shape condition dependant, a slinky chisel nose will serve most purposes, sometimes you want a fatter one for making noise, sometimes a needle nose when sauris around or waters glassy, sometimes you want it heavy for casting in to the wind, sometimes back weighted sometimes middle depends on where you fish them, but you gotta DIY for that..sometimes the fish want a big splashy thing, other times they'll only look at a 1oz skinny..sometimes I have thrown my ugliest fattest biggest 5 oz plug, purple pink brown with gold sparkles out in the hopes the leeries will leave it alone and it will get through to the other species of game fish in the feeding mess and it still went down the throat of a leerie almost a metre and half long..you never know what they want to eat, the action you impart is far more important than looks, shape helps that..braids lack of stretch makes plugs action jerky and you gotta take care to make it smooth and fast and steady..mono the way forward with plugs.

The wayne stanleys are my favorite, the subtle difference from decades of him fishing his own plugs..weight placement is right, shape right etc..not made to catch fishermen but fish.

So the Flat face plugs are slightly tapered. The chisel nose plugs are heavily tapered into a chisel end shape.
Use the flat face plugs when the water is choppy and you want to make more noise and splash in the water to attract fish.

Why? Nothing wrong with an Assist Hook made with Dacron?

Hook up rates and landed fish rates are increased with the split ring combo I described above. But to each, his own. Just trying to help here

I have many plugs rigged , both ways , with swivel . And just a splitting .


The swivel splitring setup works better on larger plugs imo. 4 Oz and up . I would also think it’s a better option for toothy critters , we don’t have that problem down here , the occasional mako that thinks he’s a gamefish ... but other than that ...

Given the current situation, any fish that is generous enough to commit to our lures/bait IS a gamefish 

Agree on the splits.... although we have caught fish on dacron (mostly YFT), but if the razor hand is around, better safe than sorry

If spinning in KZN the 1.5 oz flat face plug is my no 1 choice if there is an early morning off-shore breeze blowing. It really kicks out beautiful action then and the really big shad as well as greenspot kingfish and young Gts loves to eat it then.  The needlenose version works better in calmer sea conditions and the thin skinny version in very glassy conditions.
