New MPA in effect
« on: August 15, 2019, 12:37:03 PM »
Morning all.

Just thought I would share with you all the new MPA's have been signed. - Government Gazette 23rd May 2019.  I was fishing at Clansthal over the long weekend and two DAFF officials approached me. They informed me that the new MPA's have come into effect and that they are informing people of the no fishing zones. Once the signage has been erected, fines will be issued - upto R 5 million rand. The area south of the Mahlongwana River (Widenham) to the white beacon at Greenpoint is a restricted zone. No fishing at all and this includes the Errol Hayes rocks.

Please just take note of these new areas a they are patrolling them.

Is there maybe a website or other info available where you can see where you are allowed to fish or not
The regulations changes at daffs office but the signage at the beaches where you are allowed to fish doesn't from what I have seen so far
Early birds catches the most worms. Early worms catches the most fish.

Then look at the specific MPA for full details.

Ya someone (think it was the Commercials) contested this ruling and the Judge set it aside for review. So I'm pretty sure Night fishing is allowed.

From the St Lucia SkiBoat club....

In the Judgement under Case Number 14356/19 heard in the Western Cape   Division of the High Court of South Africa, the judge ordered that the   operation and implementation of Regulation 8(3), of the iSimangaliso MPA   Regulations, Regulation 8(6) of the Aliwal Shoal MPA Regulations as wel   as Regulation 8(6) of the Uthukela MPA Regulations are suspended,   pending the final relief sought by the Applicants.
The above regulations had the effect that no person may undertake fishing in any   Offshore Controlled or Offshore Controlled Catch and release Zones   between sunset in the evening and sunrise of the following day.   This is a great victory for shore anglers who was severely prejudiced   with implementation of the recently introduced Marine Protected Areas   (MPA) regulations.
The SLSBC will post updates on this contentious issue.
