Short Report Kosibay 2017
« on: May 11, 2017, 08:55:38 PM »
So decided to take some extra leave and spend some R & R at Kosi again  , packed up all the gear,  boat ,tackle etc and headed off on the 16th April for 12 days of some fishing ,relaxing etc ... after a safe trip arrived and  unpacked etc.. , headed off early next day and got boat in the water down at the Parks Board etc... the launch site has got rather shallow as can be seen by this guy with his Landcruiser about 80 m out in the lake trailering his 22 ft boat ..

Spent the next couple of days cruising lake 2 and 3 but the weather and fish did not play fair , water temp dropped rapidly and South westerly blew most of the time , a bit late in the season for fishing the lakes , also noted the absence of fish in the shallows in both lakes , the lakes are rapidly declining with the gill netting thats going on ... :unhap  saw 2 guys on a dugout poling across lake 3 , piled up with at least 25-30 Stumpnose some small and some big at least 2 kg + , asked them where they caught them answer was in the reeds,  they fished all night .... with rods ... i doubt it .. Anyway i fished on regardless  but it was dead quiet ..

On the last couple of days the wind changed slightly to an Easterly direction which improved conditions slightly , but by this time i'd  decided to go across to Bangha Nek by boat , moor on the bank at the campsite and walk the odd 200 m over to the bay . Managed a wave garrick and a brown stingray while there fishing on the high tide which came in later in the afternoon .Stingray was 78cm disc width about 14 kilos so was pretty happy about that .

All in all not the most exciting of fishing trips to date in that area , but still great to get away and unwind , spend time on the water and so on , always under the watchfull  gaze of the hippos ..

Great report.  (clap) It is a pity that the fish did not  play along but what can be expected when the stocks are decimated by the gill netters.  :unhap

Any time spent fishing, regardless of the outcome, is precious.
Forgive me Father for I have spinned... It's been three weeks since my last cob session.

:tkx: Mike , I love Kosi , but the gill netters have decimated the breeding stock . The rangers are too scared to do anything for fear of retribution in my opinion . We normally go to the sites in the little bay to the right of the jetty , still a pleasant place to chill . :toppie:
My wife allows me to keep all the fishing tackle I can hide.
