Malongane Kingie
« on: April 10, 2017, 07:34:30 AM »
Hi All,

Was lucky enough to get this Kingie a couple hundred meters north of Malongane bay last week. Had to work really hard for this fish as the NE wind blew all week, resulting in a really flat sea and not much happening in the surf.

Tackle used:
Daiwa Exceler 10ft rod,
Daiwa Exceler Plus 4000 reel,
spooled with 20lb Casting Braid and a pink Couta casting spoon.

Nice one. Very well done, I have thrown lures there for hours without a touch ! Maybe I needed to try a bit harder.

Thanks guys,

Malongane is a difficult place to spin, however, there's always some success over there.

Last year June the kingies were chasing the sprats in the bay at around 8 am. Strange timing, but they were there, I only had my fly rod with me and could not hook up.

The point during low/ pushing tide is also not bad, always something going on there.

Lovely King...  (clap)

I spent many hours spinning that entire stretch of Malongane... To no avail
Forgive me Father for I have spinned... It's been three weeks since my last cob session.

Nice to see that there is something up that way (my fear is that the trawlers have taken everything). Heading there on Tuesday after Easter. Have not been that way in 4 years.

Good luck Colin. I have fished Malongane for literally hours on end and have caught a shad. Personally think the fishing there is a waste of time. You really need to get lucky...

Best Pizza ever at Alex's Pizza on the road back to Ponta , little bit expensive and you have to wait While he flres up the oven but well worth it !
Snorkel the rock pools on end of the reef at low tide there were three big puffer fish in the one hole, my son caught one by hand . First time I'd seen one alive and not as a lamp!
