When I fish I let my mind wonder...


I've been thinking about an idea for a while, it might sound a bit far fetched, but just imagine how awesome it would be.
A fishing reality show where contestants compete for a grand prize, and the honor of being named "The Master Caster" or similar claim to fame.


The show would start of with two teams of say 8 anglers per team.


Teams compete in challenges revolving around specific aspects of fishing, with team performing worst going through to an immunity challenge before appearing before an panel of experts who determine who did not make the cast. Basically your typical game show/ survivor/ cooking competition format.


Every episode or challenge would revolve a different venue and aspect of fishing. Challenges would be for example: Catching Blacktail on light tackle. Bass fishing with soft plastics. Sliding live bait for in-eds. Barbel on artificial etc etc etc, options are limitless. Casting/ knot tying/ bait presentation challenges could also be incorporated, especially for the "immunity challenge". Standard tackle and bait would be supplied to teams for every challenge, or teams could choose from a tackle and bait "line-up".


Teams with the smallest "bag of fish" would compete in the immunity challenge, after which judges decide which contestant did not make the cut.


As the competition progresses and teams get small, teams would merge and anglers start competing on individual level, until the "Master Caster" or suchlike is crowned in the final episode.


Besides the obvious entertainment and educational value a show like this would have for anglers, imagine how much it could help educate the public on the dire state of our fish stocks, importance of catch and release and other info we as anglers know off by heart. Certainly the show would have to be entertaining for a non-angler to watch, but if every episode has a little information about the species targeted, soon some people will realize the folly of the statement "a fish is a fish'.


Any TV show producers here on Ultimate?! Make it happen!!

Cool I will go check it out, haven't watched DSTV in a while so I'm totally out the loop in terms of the newer shows!

I seem to remember another show which actually had contestants being eliminated etc which is the one I'm referring to

That is the one. It had group challenges, different locations, species and techniques - a knock out competition. Kingfisher was just 3 anglers in their home countries.

correct - the last challenge was the Zambezi - they were pretty useless there

Have always thought it would be good to see the best allround angler.
No help allowed and you would need to prep and fish:
flyfish for trout - tying your own flies, pap gooi for carp, plastics for bass, spin for tiger, scratch for edibles, slide for toothies, light tackle boat trolling for dorries etc and then catch, rig and pull a livebait for marlin.
For each task you get 15 minutes in a tackle shop and then hit the water.
