Arniston fishing Options

I have been invited to go to Arniston for the Long weekend this weekend. I have never been anywhere in that area so don't have much clue whats happening there.
Anyone know what the fishing off the shore is like in the area. Spots to go, is bait available there? What tackle to take as I have some of everything, from river style, spinning, 10ft grinder et up  and 14ft with sl 50sh. I don't want to take too much as its a family weekend, but I do have a fishing mad 6yr old son and I am a bit partial to wetting a line myself.
Unfortunately I dont have a boat here yet so no deepsea.
Any advise or tips for the area would be appreciated.

I have not fished Arniston before but it is close to Struisbaai and all the info on Lenny's Struisbaai report post should suffice for Arniston.
You can always drive to De Mond if you want to fish a good little river. It is a nature reserve and you are not allowed to take out any bait there but the fishing is normally quite good. There are some good Grunter, Kob and Garrick up for grabs. Try and be as quiet as possible and don't move around too much as the Grunters are skittish.

The past two weeks the fishing have been cooooking in arnies.


Plenty of good,kob en plenty of good kraker around .


A large kob was landed a week or so ago most fish 15 tot 30 kg kobs .


Some easy opportunities , with kids lots of das , wildeperd ect around .


You can just work the area from the slipway towards the east . Easy accibl , fairly safe .  Towards Struis side you go over the dune ( you'll need a 4 by 4 )  that's on your wat to die otter ect .


Keep in mind the tides when you venture down to the bricks the tide can cut you off .
The river , de mond is about 15 minutes drive from Arniston , 40 bucks gets you in , no bait collection , and you get checked , the gate opens at 7 and closes at 4 . It's a pretty family friendly area , with shade and clean toilets . Go over the bridge turn right and walk pas t the first bend . Loads of bird life .
We get lots of snakes most of them harmless mole snakes , but we do get these pufadders and be very careful they have this tendency , to sit on the edge parallel with foot paths .

Good post, Lenny.
Also watch out for the Puffies that sometimes swim through the river. I have seen them do it a couple of times with just their heads sticking out of the water. It is quite scary if you are standing waist deep in the water because you never know when they might mistake you for a dead tree. Brown water is apparently good for Kob but probably not this kind of brown water.

Unfortunately, the wind blew us away over the long weekend. It was impossible to open the house doors for 2 of the 3 days we were there, and of course the day we left (mid moring) was pearfect. We took the kids to De Mond and there they caught piles of small cape stumps so they were all pleased.
There seemed to be lots of people fishing off the high point to the south of arniston swimming beach and apparently the shad were thick, but with 7x kids with us it was not an option in the wind.
