My setup is a 9ft berkley rod with an abu söron stx 60 with 20lbs fireline
My light setup will be my 7ft mh bass rod with 20lbs spider wire and my revo stx baitcaster
Would love to catch something this holiday and dont mind putting in the graft to get it done
Any help welcome, or if someones around to show a newb the ropes :udman:

Hi Stand

Welcome to UA!

There are many places to visit when you go down to Port Edward.

Should you be comfortable getting up early (before sun rise) then have a look at Splashrock. ( Never fish SP alone especially  when you spinning )
Ladder rock is a good option as well but once again don't fish alone. ( This a a seriously danger point )
Lucky dip is a good option as well and the last couple of years the yellow tail did made some unexpected visits
Trafalgar beach is a good option but know this you will be walking a bit.

Then if the wind is blowing you can always have a look at the river systems as well like the umtamvuna river mouth and the river next to the casino.
Its always great fun with the lite tackle. Please make sure to release the fish in the river as they are mostly juvenile.

Speak to the Christi at tackle net as I am sure she will be able to give you more advice

Last of all make sure to be safe..... don't try to climb down the rocks to get your lure.
Sun screen and water is not a bad idea as well

Enjoy

Remember that guy that gave up? Neither does anyone else!

Thanks for all the awesome info Vlad
I will have a chat with Christi.
What are the best times/ tides to be fishing?
What should be the most productive lures?
Do you think a 9' rod will cast far enough to get to the fish?

Going to try and chat up some fishermen to find out what time they'll be fishing and ask if i can tag along. Heard horror stories about people getting robbed/ stabbed/ shot when they go at it alone.

Will do.
I see from your other post you are looking at investing in a spinning rod.
Have both an Amia xh and a Vengeance xh you can test out one morning, might help to make your mind up before you spend hard earned cash.

For Port Edward, the shad should be around, season opens 1st December. The usual suspects would apply here ie. toby  and iron candy spoons normally work well. Also read reports of garrick still being around, so if you don't have the tackle to slide out a live bait, get some 1.5 ounce plugs that you can spin with. Port Edward is also a great place for scratching, so get some small hooks, no. 2 to 1'0, and pink prawns, it's a well known spot for bronze bream, should be a couple with your name on it swimming around. Orange Rocks has been a little quiet lately for the guys targetting bigger species, but that entire stretch between St. Mikes and Manaba has brilliant gulleys for scratching for bream and even brusher. Orange Rocks is normally a safe area to fish in terms of crime during the day, however , it can be be a really difficult place to fish even when the sea conditions are good, so rather make sure you fish with someone who  knows the place well. Look for gulleys that are'nt difficult to get to and make sure you have a decent pair of rock boots, this is a must. You could also try Margate Pier which is also a popular shad spot. Also, check out the Shelley Beach ski boat club area, another nice place for bream and shad and quite safe. Do a search for bronze bream traces on this site, make plenty of traces before you get here, because you are bound to donate a lot of tackle when you are gulley fishing. Tight lines and hope you get stuck into some decent fishing. Sorry , one more thing, if you want to do some estuary fishing and looking for a nice spot for the family, take drive to Impenjati, the fishing might blow hot or cold here, but  it is a beautiful place to relax with the family. Having said that , make sure there are other people there if you do go because it is'nt the safest place around, which is such a pity.

@ Zberg I will be at Cosmoledo Flats no 8 ( bottom left unit on orange rocks road ) , 300 m from orange rocks opposite pothole rock parking which is directly in front ie: 90m . I am the toppie with the boep  decrepid white hat and no fish :blktl: . Hope  to meet . I will be doing some repairs before the holiday rentals arrive, but will wet a line . PS there are people around most times and parking is v safe .

Any Idea what the water salad situation looks like up Stiebel way? We normally head up one day for a session but the last 2 years the weed has been horrible each time I've been there.

Hi Standaman , I only drive down on Monday , and will be there until Friday . I will only take minimal gear as the main reason is to upgrade my flat before the Dec rental tenants . Pity though would love company but my catch per hour is poor on the south coast. Will be at Henties most of Feb , taking a bunch of guys there for their first trip there , there the results are much better.  :toppie:

Hahaha!
Colin, I wouldnt worry about not having enough gear. I generally travel with half a tackle store. Serious TA issues. Did some more xmas "from dad to dad" shopping again today.
Minister of home affairs made me promise to only take 7 rods with this year!  :hyst:

My quest this season is a Bronze bream, even a tiny one.
something thats evaded my species list for far too long.

So a quick report back for the guys tripping down that way over this Dec.

Firstly, Colin and Stef, lekker meeting you guys!
Congrats on the new pozzie Colin, its lovely!
Wishing you many happy hours staring at the ocean!

The water was very clean and calm, and by clean I mean ultra clear! Looked like the last couple of days howling NE started to put some colour in the water though when we left.
Nothing to report in the way of memorable catches unfortunately.  :-(
Got plenty stonebream, good size too, seems there are loads around and my old man got reefed by something amoungst the bream that took off and didnt stop. The spearos reported some huge bronze bream off the back of the front reef around pothole, saw a couple that were shot and indeed... busses!
Got 2 half hearted chases on a plug on the long throw thurday morning just after sunrise but no commit.
Very few shad around, saw 2 come out that juuust made size.

Good for the soul to get a line wet again!  :happ:
