Strand beach
« on: July 10, 2016, 09:11:11 PM »
Howzit guys, just thought I would do a quick report back.

Went out to the fence at Strand today looking to catch a belman with conditions being warm and sunny, with water temp at about 15 and swell at around 1.5-2m. Fished the pushing tide from 3-7 and managed to learn the trick from the guys around my friend and I. You 100% need worms. We were fishing with white mussel and red bait and caught a few crabs but nothing else. The guys next to me were using worms and kept telling my friend I stories how in the last two weeks they have been cleaning up on wonderworm and bloodworm. Just after hearing that, one guy pulled up a kob of about 4kgs on wonderworm. Just goes to show how you learn something new every trip.

Falsebay you got to carry Moonshine and prawn at all times bud.
All my big kob came on moonshine.
My last big steen was moonshine and prawn. Last night there was elf biting on fresh sard and live prawns. Winter time you looking at steen, das and stump, all prawn addicts. Caught stacks of das on moonshine already.
While some fish for a living, I live for fishing

It's a worm that's pumped for like Bloodworm, and Wonderworm you dig for in rocky areas when rocks are rolled out the way(kiss your fingernails and skin goodbye :nobs: )...

Howzit

Few things to keep in mind when fishing that stretch of beach from melkbaai to the fence .

The biggest stuff up in winter are , the large amount of urban runoff and the severely polluted Lourens river flooding the area , this fresh/ polluted water sits ove the area , sometimes for weeks on end , I will go as far as to assume this is very bad long term and short term .

The other thing is further to the built up areas , the natural sand movement are awol , and the big machine the have cleaning the beaches I think is also a problem .

The last negative thing I want to point out , that that area is not that save at ALL , stay safe .

The fence area for sure holds good edible fish at times , every year , one or two giant steenbras gets into the local district mail dunno how many do get caught ...

The district mail has a small weekly fish and chirps , angling info on the area , best to read those weekly , and start to figure out what's the story .

One thing for bellman , use the smallest , lightest lines and swivels and sinker possible ....

Very good advice regarding safety, on our one watsapp group there was an issue at the fence sometime in the last week... not sure exactly what.  Even at Blakes at night guys i know nearly got robbed one evening, with the risks getting worse further left.

The Lourens river is one of the most polluted rivers in the country, and fairly recently the e-coli count in the sea water due to the rivers in the area (the other small one near greenways) was through the roof.
Men... what lies ahead on that beach... IMMORTALITY.... TAKE IT IT"S YOURS!!!!!!
