Easter at Kosibay.
« on: April 06, 2016, 07:26:02 PM »
So myself and better half took some time off over Easter + a couple of days leave and packed the Hilux , hooked up the boat and headed for Kosibay Lodge for a well deserved break , + an opportunity to do some :fshn: and give the new boat a good run on the lakes , trip was fine and arrived about 2pm at the lodge , unpacked etc and sorted out tackle and so on , launched the boat next morning as soon as gates opened and headed off on lake 3 , fishing was slow ..... very slow , plenty holiday crowd on the waters so went to far southwestern side of the lake , got a huge hit from i can guess was a  :gt: , whacked the plug clean out the water right at the boat as i was reeling in for next cast , tried in vain to lure him back but was gone ..idled round a bit more for the day and found these huge floating boulders (hippo) and a large croc as well .... sneaking about an eyeing us out on the boat .

Went off to lake 2 the following day , but also spent most of the day teaching sand prawn the finer art of swimming and same for all the lures .. :cnfzd , eventually resorted to putting out light tackle stuff , when all else fails , scale down .. :rck" , and baited up with some chokka and got a large puffer (Toby) , all quiet after that and as usual the Northeaster came howling thru like it did every day , so back to the lodge.

Spent the next couple of days chilling and darting off into the lakes when there was a gap in the wind , Northeaster for 2 days solid and then it would turn around and howl from the Southwest again , crazy stuff and can turn the lakes really ugly and uncomfortable with short, peaked swells and chop, walked around the lodge a bit which by the way are rebuilding there restaurant and reception area that was destroyed in a fire in January this year , took the camera with got this shot of a brown hooded kingfisher or woodlands kingfisher and of course the ever present vervet monkeys , slighty more well behaved than the ones at Mapelane .. :hyst:

Finally gave up on the lakes , spoke to a guy that had been there for 9 days and only managed 2 fish ... :shk , was fun though as usual and running the boat up and down the lengths of lake 3 and 2 , really impressed nice stable , dry ride and lots of space for tackle etc..., handled the ruff stuff no problem , headon into the chop and swells and running with the swells and chop , motor has good power due to sea level so was very happy .
Went and got a day permit for the Kosi-mouth which is getting pricey just for the day, loaded up the R&S tackle and fished the low tide  on the right hand side , saw plenty bluespot/greenspot kingfish in the 3-5kg range and they gave chase to the plugs and lures , but would'nt commit and turn away at the last second , water was very clear though and i reckon they were a bit skittish + it was midday -ish as well, threw some baits as well but only had one or two decent bites , but no takers , called it a day at about 5 pm and headed back to the lodge to pack-up , hook up boat and leave the next day ... still was fun regardless of the conditions as always .

Thanks Mike... That boat is a beaut!!! Glad she's giving you happiness. Bummer about the big hit not sticking.
Forgive me Father for I have spinned... It's been three weeks since my last cob session.

Nice report Mike! Glad the boat performed as you hoped! My cousin was there the week after you and only managed one grunter of 3,5kg and a couple of smalls in between. Weather was upside down as well.
Trouble is just fun you got caught having

Great report Mr Pike. It is a pity the fish did not come out to play but at least you were styling on your new ride.  :win:
