Kickboat
« on: August 04, 2015, 12:46:59 PM »
Time I got myself a kickboat, any advice? Not so keen on the float tube where you sitting on the water-means buying waders and I end up getting wet anyway. i've been offered an xplorer XPT II for about R3500. I like that you have the option to paddle yourself around in it.

i use an xplorer v-boat.
Very lekker and wadders arent that expensive! Even with a kickboat your legs will be in the water past your shins, so you will still need waders.

think a new explorer v boat is about R3k, and you can get snowbee waders for about R700

i fish off the explorer journey v boat. happy with it, but the waders have sprung a slow leak, and the water gets COLD after a few hours. i picked up a xpt II last your on gumtree for R1500. deal was too good not to buy.
i have only fished off it twice though. i really like the higher seating and the fact that you can sit with your feet out the water if you want. it is however too big to effectively move distances with the flippers, so you need to use the oars. i find them a bit cumbersome. gets in the way while fishing, and the boat is not easy to manoeuvre especially when the wind picks up, soooo
my 30lb trolling motor was delivered this morning from ganis.  :happ: .
will be making a "transom" tommorrow to fit it onto the pontoon boat.
want to have it ready for sunday. will go and try it out on Mavela dam.
will give you update if it is worth it.

i have both xpt11 and journey. my general rule : for big waters and cold days i use the pontoon (xpt11), for smaller waters warm seasons i pull into the journey. i hardly use a waders because of this. however, i use neoprene high/long socks to kick the pontoon in winter. there is also times when space is a issue with the car and i have the choice of either. its lekka to sit in a kick boat with a wet bum in summer but certain waters have bugs that suck/bite you, for this i use a cream to put them off me.
the only other thing i can think of is the amount of work need to assemble and to pack away, the kickboat wins hands down but a little xtra work never hurt anyone,

Kevf, I have a Xplorer Journey Vboat I'm willing to part with for less than 2K.
In its box, its only ever seen water once from new, just gathering dust in my garage at the moment and my wife would like to reclaim the packing space. If you're possibly interested send me a PM and I'll put some air in it this weekend and make sure its all working and all the bits and bobs that should be there are there for peace of mind. Got an unused pair of Xplorer neoprene socks I can throw in gratis as well.
