As true and pure as it gets. Rod with line attached to lillian and no reel. 12ft of line and thats it.

For dry fly and nymph I use a 5X tippet. 6X would have done the trick but I just had a feeling that I was going to connect with something big and loose it on 6X.

Koos, your EHC's do you tie them with CDC?

Koos, your EHC's do you tie them with CDC?

EHC - Elk Hair Caddis is completely different to a CDC & Elk.

EHC Recipe:

Hook: Dry Fly Hook of your Choice
Dubbing: Rust Brown Dubbing Super Fine
Hackle : Rust Brown Hackle
Rib: Fine Copper Wire - This prevents the fly from coming apart.
Wing : Elk or Dair hair in Tan but Olive also works well.

CDC & Elk Recipe:

Hook: Dry Fly Hook of your Choice
Body : Palmer CDC in colour of your choice
Wing : Elk or Dair Hair
Optional : Fine Rubber Legs/ Centipede Legs/ Barred Grizzly Legs

Here is what I have seen. On the Cape Streams and even Rhodes a CDC & Elk works a charm. It works in some places in the Drakensberg too, but the original EHC outfishes it by leaps and bounds.

Any Hackled Dry will give you fish in the Berg, i.e. Stimulators, Beetles, Royal Coachman, Humpys and the list goes on. If you like fishing foam hoppers, then tie in some palmered hackle and see the difference.

Lovely report Koos. The humour you add to your story lifts it a cut above the rest.

Thanks for taking the time Koos and providing your report, food to my soul. I've been fishin the Bushmans for the past three years and always look forward to fishing that river, unfortuately couldn't  get a gap to go this year. Must say i'm keen to do Lotheni after seeing your report, well done and glad you had fun.

Only a pleasure.

Stay in touch, maybe we can connect on a future trip. Always nice having someone around to split costs, etc. I have no problem going on my own, but after 5 days without anyone around you start talking to yourself, probably not a problem, but it does get weird when you start answering yourself.

I can relate... but then again, I often need expert advice....
