Ponta Malongane Advice?
« on: September 01, 2014, 09:54:48 PM »
Howsit ladies and gents

Going to Ponta Malongane for the week this week, expect some scenic pictures and hopefully an epic fishing report! Any advice would be thoroughly appreciated.

Will be spinning and fishing with bait. Are garrick a possibility? Would die for a GT. Shad?

Thanks in advance

Walk or drive north to Fredrico's. Fish over the scattered reef. Night fishing is alot better than during the day.

You can also try going south just after the point. Fish the area were there are lot's of palm trees in the dune...

Have had some success there...

Roachy,

This time of the year is not fireworks fishing Malongane, but if you must:

1. Light tackle spinning and lures sunrise and sunset in the corner of the bay (where the boats launch). Juvenile Kingy's, Shad and Wave Garrick.

2. 2-300 meters north of the resort, Shad, Wave Garrick, maybe even Kabeljou. Best spot for sliding big baits Sharks, flat fish and I saw a GT brought out there that the guy could easily have registered for a Southern Africa rod and reel record.

I however think the water temps are way down after the storm of last week so fishing will be slow for the next week or two. Also follow John F's advice, good area for scratching amongst the rocks.

Good luck

Hey guys...

Didn't bother with the fishing report - because to be honest - there was not much to report!

Very little came out while I was in Malongane - but here's what we did get.

Bonefish

A few of these Threadfin / Bastard Mullet

and one of these on spoon

Nah, threadfins don't stay alive very long. The Wave Garrick are close second to the Bonefish though!
