Hi ,these are some spots that I've fished at and some info,tips and stories of where certain spots are and what to target there.As you all know,there are many other factors that also effect a spot or stretch of coast that will not be covered in this thread...I want to keep it as simple as possible without boring you,so I'm not always going to mention baits as you should know these,so hope you enjoy... Kleinbrak:About a km to the left of the rivermouth,you should find a gravel parking area as shown in the picture,here you'll find a hole(1)and a gutter(2),that stays more or less the same for most of the year.Here you can target Leeries and Kob on live Mullet and Elf on fleshy baits.Between these spots you can target Grunter,Steenbras and the odd Musselcracker,you will often get big Barble on the fleshy baits,if they become too much of a nuisance while fishing for Kob you could fillet one,just remove the slimy skin and watch out for those spikes... Kleinbrakriver:Spinning,dropshot and paddletails works well at this river.1: the train bridge,on the mouth side when there are less sandbanks you can target small Leeries and various other small fish like Stumpnose,Blacktail and Karanteen(Strepies)between the structure,we caught a good sized Grunter on a live Mullet here one evening...the Mullet probably died first 2: N2 side of the trainbridge,here you can cast onto the mudflat at no.3 at high-tide for Grunters,some mudprawns can be pumped here,or right around to the other side at no.4 also big Grunter and small Leeries,there's great fun to be had by the youngsters at this river on light tackle... 4: when the sandbank allows it,you can target all of the above mentioned fish,a friend even caught a juvenile Bronzie here(7kg)5: cast into the river or on the mudflats for Grunters,Leeries and the odd Kob...6: old pumpstation,deeper water where you can target Kob from 4-15kg,Grunters and small Leeries.7: deep hole(+-6m) where Kob and Leeries can be targeted close to bridges' pillars,Grunter here too...8: between the 2 bridges is a spot where you can park your vehicle,you tend to get snagged up quite often here though.Rather do some spinning,just be carefull if using lipped lures as it could become costly,also gotta watch the water as you usually drive through the river at low-tide when it's dry,you can get trapped on spring tides unless you've got a 4x4...9: another nice hole where some good Grunter,Kob and Leeries can be caught.10: just a spot where I get Mullets,when they are scarce this will be my go to place with some chum.11: as the name suggests,you can get mudprawns here too,targets:Grunter on the flats and Kob on the drop-offs.12:This spot is mostly for boats,you should see a tyre on the bank close to this spot,deep hole for Kob and Leerie,Grunters on the mudflats...13:much the same as 12...Passie se gat:If you're up for a bit of a walk,then this is a good place to fish,gotta cross the trainbridge from Kleinbrak side or park at Hartenbosriver.Here you can target Bronze bream,Cracker,Galjoen,Blacktail and Steenbras on the banks,if you're coming from Hartenbos use a beach trolley if you're not fit enough... Hartenbos river:Between Passie se gat and the mouth you can look for nice working water and some scattered reef for Bream,Blacktail and Steenbras and at night some Elf and Kob...At the mouth itself you can try for Leeries with mullet and for the shark brigade,good luck stopping some of these nunu's(saw a guy once that seemed dressed more for kite-surfing with wetsuit,kidney-belt and plenty straps keeping him in contact with his rod,after 900m the fish hadn't slowed or turned... straight stick,locked drag)At the reefs,red-bait,Armadillo and Octopus can be sourced on spring low,and reef-fish are the target species...Benekes klip:This place can deliver epic catches or epic blanks,target Cracker here(octopus,swimming & red crab),we have also found Elf here early evenings and Blacktail during the day,cast towards the rock,some big Cracker have been caught here...the parking you'll see to the left of pic. and there's another alley to park at +-100m towards Hartenbos between the houses...Die pyp(Bayview):Between the righthand marker and the pipe you can target Leeries,Steenbras and Bellman early morning and late afternoon.Elf and Kob at night,some Blacktail and Stumpies at the pipe too during the day,I've caught some Leeries between these markers too...Dias beach:Here you can target Leeries,Sharks,Bellman,Steenbras.Elf and Kob at night,we even got small Hammerheads(5-10kg)one evening,quite a bit of light on the beach here at night which seems to attract the Elf...Dias corner:I've only fished here once,but i'm itching to get back here as I lost a big Steenbras here on pinkprawns when the hook pulled(felt like I hooked the train on the nearby tracks)Also rather fish 2/3 guys here as the robbers live just up the hill on the right...there have been robberies along this coast... Haaibankies:As the name says,Sharks from these reefs,some Leeries and big Elf here too...a well known "old salt" told me he lost his p/b blue Elf here(estimated at 10-11kg's,right by his feet... )I also heard that the locals caught most of their big reef-fish here years ago...De Bakke:Here you can source some red-bait and sand bait,the usual reef species to be targetted here,big Kollies and Wildeperd(Zebra).I'm sure Crackers patrole these little bays too,as bait is plentifull(Oysters,Perlemoen,Occy,Crabs,Allikreukel and red & sand bait).Also some Armidillo,that's also on mr.crackers' menu. Santos beach:never really fished here,apparently not allowed as it's a bathers' beach and close to MBYSC.At night and early evening when the beachgoers have left Elf and Leeries can be targetted.Some small Mackerel too,not really a well known spot to fish at,but nice for the kiddies with light tackle,never really much swell here either...Skurwe bankies:Here one can target nice Leeries(6-14kg)and if really lucky Yellowtail on livies or spoons.You can catch livies like Mullet,Karranteen,Kollies and Gorries here,guys slide from this block for Sharks and Rays too..As the name suggests,you can get reef-fish here like Galjoen,Kollies,Red-Roman and Zebra. The Point:At punt klip(as I know it)I've seen some big Crackers landed,your usual reefspecies too.You'll lose a LOT of lead here.I don't fish here often,but heard that when standing on this rock,one should cast more towards 13-15:00 if visualising a clock,rather than 8/9 o'clock towards the tidal pool,heard some Yellow-tail came out here before too...Kranse(mountain)onkruid:Here you can expect quite a dangerous climb and walk,pack only essentials like water,sinkers,nylon,hooks etc.Good rock-shoes are essential.Big Crackers and Poensies can be expected here,along with Jan bruin,Roman,Galjoen,Bronze Bream and for the in-ed fishermen some big sharks and rays too... Oesterbaai or Grootkloof at Pinnacle point:This is a good spot for Crackers and other reef fish,big Leeries,Elf and Kob too.Livebait like Mullets,Blacktail and Karranteen can be caught here with a small rod or a cast-net...redbait and crabs can be collected here too.Danabay(1st beach):1:Walk to the left from the parking area to where the beach ends,then climb up onto the rocks,here you can expect Steenbras,Leeries,Kob and Elf,lots of Mullets at times...2:Steenbras,Cracker,Galljoen,Blacktail3:Blacktail at the rock close by(we use pilchard intestines on 1/0 hooks,caught p/b here,bigger than a steeringwheel and dot almost gone easily over 40cm... good fun on 8/9" rods and grinders,kids love it too...4:Usually Steenies,I always use wire grapnels at Danabay,as currents are usually strong...5:climb onto this rock and fish for Steenies too...6:mostly reef-fish as you're casting into the rocks,Galjoen and Crackers.7:same as above...8:die pyp:here,depending on the structure and formation(changes drastically,sometimes you'll cast into bricks,next week sandbank),you can target cracker,steenies or perhaps kob,elf and leeries on the sandbank... 9:there should be a facebrick house with 2 large,seafacing arches right behind you,cast inbetween the 2 rocky outcrops(steenies longer cast,reef fish closer in)10:long reef running straight into the ocean(can catch swimming crabs to the left here at low...watch-out,they don't play nice)best way to catch them is to chum(onionbag)tied to your leg and let the swells wash it around,you've gotta be quick,but easier to let them reverse back into the sand slightly and then grab body and pinchers all together,make sure you hold its pinchers tightly against its body...you've been warned(perhaps use welding/gardening gloves if still a novice) 11:there's a lone rock in the water,I'd say 50-60m in,sometimes submerged under sand,but when washed open attracts gallies,to its young/small blackmussels...12:deeper water here(caught a small bronzie here once on kob bait),reef fish and kob13:there's usually a nice gulley running parallel to the beach with a sandbank behind that,I've had some nice pulls on prawns that didn't result in a hook-up... 2nd beach(Danabay):left of parking look for a sandbank for steenies or gulley/rip for kob.the reefs holds gallies,blacktail etc.Danabay 3rd beach:If you feel like a walk,then this is also a productive area,with reefs and sand,so you have many options there,sometimes the Bellman are wild up that way...Boggomsbay:Probably one of my favourite destinations,simply because of its diversity,the sharky people can have fun here,but for me anywhere there's good formation is worth a go,be it leeries,galjoen,bellman,kollies,grunter or stumpnose during the day or nice kob at night,the spot on the left is where we've caught most species,with the best probably being a 4.8,a 4.5,a 3.2 and a 2,8kg gallie on one day,over and above the grunter and bellman,(when fishing musselworm).At these rocks these swimming crabs(sandkrappe) can be caught too...it's perhaps better to bring livies along from M.bay as searching for them here can be hard and very wet work but nice to see leeries chasing all around you while stalking with the net...but it's tiring to carry a 20l bucket for 2 hrs while hunting... Vleesbay:I personally don't have any experience fishing here,but do know that not so lonng ago a couple of leeries and kob came out here,I've also heard that "swembatjie"produces some fish... Fransmanshoek(die saal):this is one of the better known spots around here,well known for it's BIG sharks,BIG kob,crackers and leeries to name a few....you can spin for leeries or use live-bait caught there,to target them close to the rocks,no need to slide for them...just be very surefooted when going there as it can get dangerous very quickly here,ecspecially when everyone and his brother gets the fever and hooks and sinkers start whizzing past your ears,and there's only so much space up there,I find it better to go during the week or if too busy try the outcrops to the left.If you're going to gaff anything,please use a long gaff and don't take chances with shorter gaffs,no fish is worth your life...Malbaai:this bay is directly behind die Saal,rugged area too,with reefspecies being your target,watch the water here,can get rough...Fonteintjies:it's a bit of a walk to get there but is a very productive spot,here you can target galjoen and cracker between the bricks or move to the sand on your right and target bellman and grunter,perhaps steenies too...kog aswell further down the beach.Kanon beach:target anything from kob and elf(spot 1) between the scattered reef and sand,to cracker and gallies of the reefs(spot 2)...octopus works well here for kob and crackers...there used to be a lot of allikreukil here,other baits also available.Kanon rocks:target species will be BIG crackers,galjoen and the rest of the reef dwellers,I've seen molers from crackers in rockpools here that were as big as R5 coins... the locals look out for fisherman who have long brutal battles with CRACKERS here,and if broken off or reefed,they patrole the coast for a couple of days waiting for the fish that sometimes get washed ashore after dying from exhaustion...never seen that,but can almost believe that...it's could maby be Poensies too... I stand to be corrected but I believe that the S,A, record kob was caught on this strech of coast towards Gouritz mouth(76,09kg)...some blue elf swimming around here too,6-9kg Gouritzriver mouth:It's a bit of a walk from Kanon rocks' parking,to spot x,but if you're allowed to cross Oom Jannies' property,it could hold a p/b kob or elf,fished there before,but only caught a sandy a bronzie and a "don't know",it dropped the live-bait,but the bait came back with trademark kob puncture wounds... .A slide can be sent out from the parking area on the left of the pic. for kob and blue elf,last time there,something clipped both my hooks,changed to light steeltrace and nothing... my friends dad went tight too on a biggish kollie,but the damn sinker got snagged,he stood with it headshaking for a long time but eventually the line parted...eish,only a kob has a mouth big enough to swollow that bait... anyway,enough sad stories for now,fishing off the beach next to the mouth also produces nice catches of kob,elf and cracker where there's a rocky bottom...for some spinning try the sandbanks in the river or put a livey on the drop-off,leeries,elf and kob.the river:for some lighter fun,grunter and small steenies can be caught at the fence,witkopklippe(7m hole) and vinknes(boat),even steentjie se gat close to shore if you have a boat to cross with(not allowed to moore the boat across the river,unless maby to get mudprawns or mullets).Kob and leeries can be caught at 1 & 2,steentjie se gat(8m deap)and at witkopklippe,I won't suggest fishing liveys with light tackle as numerous 100lb kob and BIG blue elf are caught in this river,octopus leg is also deadly for the big kob...same friends' dad caught a 47kg kob at the low-waterbridge that crosses the river on mullet fillet...That's enough for now,I'm tired,hope it has been of help to most of you...the remainder tomorrow...if anyone reading this has anything to add to this,please,feel free to add to it... lloooonnnggg topic... this galjoen was caught at the Danabay 1st beach spot in front of the parkinglot...spot 11,first cast,pink prawn
