Decent rod to use 4-6oz or 5-7oz
« on: April 01, 2014, 01:24:58 PM »
Being toying with the idea of going the grinder route for eds , as ive got a Saltiga surf 5000 , that i got a while back and never really paired it up with a rod as of yet , searched the internet flat for something suitable , but dont want to spend a pile of cash on a rod that will be used twice a year also dont want to buy cheap and have to replace every 2 yrs etc .. so far the Blue Marlin seems like a good option as does some others, Purglas , Poseidon , Sensation , Dont want to go the 14 ft range will stick to the 13.6 ft range , any other suggestions... ?? Thanks.

I would seriously look at the T-Flex or Iron Feather.

C'mon Mike! You can't pair a Saltiga with anything less.   That's like ordering a Glenlivet XXV and drinking it with coke!  :shk

With a grinder setup, you will need the extra 1ft to get decent distance. Most of the decent medium-heavy Grinder rods are 14 ft+ you need the length and whip of the tip to get distance.

Maybe investigate the Poseidon Extender? Collapsible butt. 13ft 6, 4-6oz. Not sure if they make them anymore, can't find them on the Kfisher website...  :dunno:

Not sure if they still make them , read on the "other site "that some one bought one and the tip snapped off on 1st cast ..
So have narrowed it down to this: Poseidon Gold Class Bantam 5 , comes with 3 tips  L / M / H , the heavy rated 6-7 oz ,only downside is its 13 ft as opposed to the 14 ft dedicated grinder rods , which is not really an issue specially if u casting in a confined area  OR  Poseidon Gold class 3M , 14ft rated 5-6 oz in long or short butt , ... but its only a single tip which limits the options of going light or medium when throwing baits , the Saltiga is nice and so is the price as with the Evo etc , anyone use any of the 1st two rods i mentioned and if so how do you rate them .. ??

Mine is 12 ft and 3-4 oz rating, it has the extended but to accomodate better whip action for grinder as the other one i have the but is too short and only for multiplier. I injured my shoulder so battle with the multipliers now to get distance.

Thanks mozhunter , did look at the waft iron feather , actually had a coupe of casts with one rated 3-5 oz , just need that extra 1 ft and slightly softer action and bigger range of casting weights .... watch this space ... :hehe: .. :hnthnt: .
