Glenn, the flows are ok at around 47 cubes, in fact almost perfect flows.

The water however is still very silty, with visability around 10 cm or so. This means that you have to virtually drift the fly onto the fish's nose in order for it to be seen.
There is also a fair amount of smaller branches, twigs, and even some trees snagged on the bottom among the rocks.
What it amounts to is tough fishing with loosing a lot of flies.

But hey, who's complaining ?? We bin fishing man.  fshg fshg fshg
If we caught fish on every trip, it would be called " Catching". We don't, and that's why it's called "Fishing".

I dusted off the Ark and took a morning trip to one of my favourite venues, GVP this morning.

Flows were low, around 25 and visibility around 30 cm's, which is almost normal for this venue.

Went upriver ( as per normal ) past the first reef of the old Fish Eagle, to the second reef and fished the "old" Golden corner. Firstly, it's no longer a corner ( the floods saw to that ) and it's no longer Golden. It's a new MUDDIE HOLE.  :cnfzd :clwn.  Got 9 muddies and my one and only SM yellow here.

Drifted down to the old muddie hole and only got 2 in 30 minutes.

Drifted down to the small riffles where we pull the boats through and got another 2 muddies, with the last one being the biggest of the day at 2.2kg.

My hat's off to Koos, for a beutifull rod build on the 5# Scott. (clap) (clap) Although very supple, and sensitive, that rod has some seriooooouuuusss backbone.
I had a 180 deg bend in that rod on numerous occassions today, and not even the smallest creak. I LIKE IT :happ: :happ:  Sorry Rory, but if you snooze, you looze :crzy :crzy.
I'll let you fish with it though :sml: :sml:

Nice one Herman, glad to hear you got a few fish and the viz is improving.
OMR and I fished Eastco yesterday and viz was still around 10cm and flows were very low. Only really fished for a few hours in the morning and we got 1 fish each and a few on offs , all in very fast water. Damien and Angi plus a few of their mates came through a bit later in the day and camped over, not sure how they did.
Korrie was doing his thing there and we caught up with Tye, Bryan and a few others.

Crongrats on the purchase of the Scott, if it fishes anything like my 3 weight SAS then it's a real beaut.

The normal mornings fishing then. :hehe: :hehe:

The rod is sweet, but was purchased for winter dry fly fishing. I just had to test it's capabilities today, and must say I'm very, very happy.

Ha ha, yep. Although we did stay until around 4pm, mostly discussing Tye's chrome dome and watching little silvers picking off dead terrestrials in the scum line in the big pool.

Craig ( Lichia Amia ), Pieter ( icStuff ), Bryan ( Williaby ), Bryan's buddy Dion and I ended up going to the Italians today. The original venue was Erina, but when I got there at around 05:45 it was locked up tight. :unhap. And from what is lying around hasn't been entered for at least a week. :cnfzd . I'm afraid this could be the end of Erina as a venue :sadd :sadd

The Italans was quite full ofbank anglers, but only 1 other f/f on the water. After some cold teeth cleaning with the W/H Draught, :crzy :crzy off we went .
The flows were the normal 16, the viz the normal cr@p 10 cm's, Pieter shuddering at how much colder the water is here than below the barrage. w;k

Bryan and Dion were the first into fish, followed by Pieter. Then the new Yellow King  :clwn ( Craig ) , got his first Vaal River SM. :happ: Then his second, then his third (clap) (clap).

As far as I know the mornings results were something like, Bryan 8 SM, ( Korries course must work :hehe: )  Craig 3 SM, Dion 2 SM, Pieter 2 SM.
My score ????  :hehe: :hehe: 3 full swims ( up to chin level ), one gashed shin, 8 lost flies, 2 lost leaders. 2 small SM yellows netted and 2 lost on the take.

Another great mornings fishing. :happ: :happ:

Handle with care, spot the wading stick ( donkey penis ) an essential part of your equipment fishing the Vaal. With out it you are sure to lose your front teeth .
