fished silver streams yesterday from 10am to 3pm. only saw one other flyer (youngster) and few conventional fisherman. flow rate looked to be about 20 odd cubes compared to the usual 15 and water clarity about 50 to 60cm. caught plenty nice yellows with the biggest being 2,6kg. two carp and the biggest scaled at 4,8kg. 8 muddies and the biggest was 1,6kg. saw a few grass carp eating off the surface in the stream in between both islands and refused to cast to these because those puppies looked well over 8kg mark. the barbles stayed away, thank goodness.the pattern for catching the bigger yellows yesterday was to find the carp in the rapids and work the water around them. the hot spot fly did all the damage.
started off by fishing the pool in front of the main house, near the middle where those big rocks split the current, here i caught most of the muddies and few small yellows. then moved downstream and fished the willow just before the tribuatry, here i caught some nice yellows weighing 1,2 to 1,6kg mark. then moved downstream and fished the last set of rapids where both rivers meet, from here to the last set of rapids on the free state side is where it kept very busy, so busy that my arm ache but couldnt give up. that last rapid of the free state side just before the tail end of island is where the big boys came out. then i proceed to venture upstream catching some nice yellows here and there before turning into the feeder stream, popped over the big island finding a gillnet twisted around a fallen branch from (proberbly) a last high flow, so it seemed to be, next time i'll take knife and fix it proper for the owner to admire the crafty work. climbed off the water for some coca cola and head home with a smile as long as my 10 foot streamflex rod. chucks, tomorrow gents?
then cooked it
found it
