Last weekend I found that if it was small and black it worked, as well as cricket imitations for dry.

Well, met Kallie at 11 yesterday, and we were off. Gavin was a few minutes behind us and soon all 3 of us were set up and on the water !
The water was pleasant, not too cold, and the rocksnot was not too bad either.

The yellows were a bit shy, but the muddies sure made up for it !!!

I got 4 muddies and a little yellow ! Man those muddies box hard !!!! One took me down so that i could almost see my backing !

Thanks to Kallie for the drive, advice and cool photos ! and to Gav for the awesome company !

PS - My flies work !!!!

Fished YFP this morning from 07:00 to 11:00. Water was dead calm when I launched the Ark and rowed up to the second reefs. Water temp at 7:30 was 19 and air temp 26. Visibility around 30 - 40 cm's, flows a guess at 16 - 20, but very slow for this time of the year. :dunno:
There was some rock snot around in certain areas, but in others none.
Got one muddy at the top reef, then moved down to the "muddy hole " and got another one. The Barbel and Carp were spawning big time against the other bank in the pool just opposite the smaller house.
Then I saw 2 youngsters walking into and fishing to the spawning fish with spinners. Quickly got the boat back on the water and rowed across to have a chat with them. They apologised, packed up their gear and moved off.

I then had to row downstream to the first reef, as the wind was really pumping. :unhap  Whilst sitting on the boat having some brunch I noticed yellows taking something off the surface all over the place. Not having any dries I found the 2 most nymph and caddis looking flies on and sent them out. 4th cast to rising fish and I had a double hookup. :yipee:

Both flies, yes please. :happ:  Both fish were only around a kilo, but proved a worthy fight.

Then the biggest barbell I've seen in a long while decided to come spoil the fun, chasing small yellows and muddies all over the place.
I had a brief thought of going for it with my platana fly until I saw that his whiskers were about 20cm apart,  :shk and realised that on a 5# with a 2X leader, this was just looking for a hiding .

Then the wind really came up, and I had to row zig zag downstream to get back to the launch site.

Another great morning on the Vaal. :clwn
If we caught fish on every trip, it would be called " Catching". We don't, and that's why it's called "Fishing".

Very nice fish Homie!!! :+ cred:

However - you must understand that a fly jacket is not a cooler box! This is now  the second time you have been bust transgressing fly fishing etiquette!
