Hi All, back again after the last computer got toasted by lightening :unhap :unhap

Rory and Pieter are both right. DO NOT fish the Italians if you are a NEWBY to the Vaal, and on your own. The wading is treacherous and the flows very deceptive.

I saw my arse twice last Sunday, :cnfzd and had to literally swim for 30 - 40 meters because I misjudged a drop off in what I thought was quiet water against an island.

Thank goodness Bryan was out of sight, otherwise I'd have a "live" pic for my avatar. :hehe: :hehe:
If we caught fish on every trip, it would be called " Catching". We don't, and that's why it's called "Fishing".

Pieter (  ICStuff ) and I took on the bottom run at the Italian's again today.

It was a very brief session from on the water, 07:00 to 09:00. ( We had other, more serious, things to do )

Needless to say both of us had a Vaal Shuffle up to neck deep  , mine backwards and Pieter's a straight forward dive :dunno:

We both got fish though, not huge but big enough to put a bend in the rod. w;k

My sincere heartfelt thanks to Pieter, OMR, ( Chris Wiliams ) and my eldest boet Phil for being there for the sprinkling of Jan's ashes into the Vaal River, which he grew to love.

All in all a wonderfull day.

Thanks again guys.

I decided to fish Eendekuil today ( after 4 years ) as a recce for next Saterday, when I will be hosting a good friend from the EC.

I was firstly amazed that I was the only f/f on the water  :shk :shk , and so it was the whole day  :clwn

It took me a while to remember the lie of tha land, and there are new runs ( to me ) after the floods of the last few years.

The flows were slow, the visibilty around 40 cm's and the downstream breeze Fresh. I would guess that the water temp was around 20.

In 3 1/2 hrs I managed 6 yellows, 3 on offs. and missed another 3 takes. The yellows were all in prime condition. :happ:

Flies that worked were : Black UV nymph, Orange hotspot, and the most sucessfull was a #14 mustard caddis.

OH YA, next Saterday is open to anyone who want's to pitch up. Entrance at Eendekuil is R 80 pp. There are 10  places left on the booking list. ( Only 20 rods allowed per day ) The other 10 guys are all from Flytalk, except ICStuff ( Pieter ),
who will no doubt KLAP the fish again.

Here's some pics of what you can expect.

First pic, Pieter screaming like a girl, ( sry  Pieter )
Second, some of the many waters,
Third, the result.

3 or 4 of the Urban Flyfishers regulars will be there but sadly on Sunday only as the shop is open on Saturday, after the cold temperatures of last weekend it's probably our last trip till late Sept , current temps are 19-20 deg.

Just found this thread today and have enjoyed reading it all through , looking forward to a good season when spring comes by (this is based on the good number of healthy juveniles we took this season) , I have a number of photo's of myself and friends with our catches this season - taken between Strydoms/Silwer Strome and Elgro but rather than try a mass upload would you mind if I just post my gallery here http://urban-fly-fisher.com/gallery/ , ignore the few trout pictures and the rest represent what I believe was my best season in 3 years. Again thanks for an informative and entertaining thread   fishing

Hi Urban, First and foremost  :welc: :welc: .

It's great to have an Angling Retailer on the forum. :-)

It's a pity you can't make Eendekuil on Sat, because come some Sunday all the fish will have been "pricked",  and extremely shy of flies  :hehe: :hehe: .

Tell you what, we'll leave run 1 and 2 for you :lolo: .

BTW, I'm just joking sry , there is so much water at this venue that no one group could spoil the nexxt days fishing.

Tight lines for Sunday. w;k

About 12 of us ended up at Eendekuil on Saterday. Water temp was around 19 - 20 and vis around 20cm's.
As far as I know, almost everyone got something although the fish were very small. My one fish the smallest I have ever landed. ( Last Pic. )

A great lunch, curried prawns courtesey of Etienne, and Frederick for being Braai Master .  ( Pieter how's the after effects of the 3 helpings of prawns  :shk  ).

A great day out marred by the news that Tim Collier ( owner of Eendekuil ) had had a heart attack during the morning. :unhap

I just spoke to Charmaine ( Tim's wife ) and he has had a stent fitted in the one artery. He will be on medication, and may have to have stents installed in the other arteries after a month or so, if the medication doesn't work properly.

A few pics of the day.

Pieter and I fished GVP yesterday afternoon. ( Sat ).

Water temp was around 16 - 18 deg and the vis around 20 - 30 cm.
It was a nice balmy afternoon with little to no wind, PERFECT for dry flies.

To see the rest go to the " Yellows in Winter " thread. :crzy

So with my Birthday looming on the 16th April ,
4 friends decided to hit the Vaal – Woelwater’s to be specific …
The team consisted of Ameer , Sashin ,Kumz and myself .

So bright an early we all met to depart – 5 am .
We all piled into the Verso and headed out ,
We arrived at about 7 am – after making a few stops etc …

Into the water we ventured and it was freaking cold .

Kumz decided to brave the water ..with no Wading Stick and did the Vaal Shuffle 3 times ..
I chose my 1st spot and with 15 mins I was on with a beautiful Yellow ..bout 2 kgs …

After going back in on the 3rd cast was on with a muddy .

The rest of the day rather slow .

Ameer and I picked up a Barbel each ..after long fights we unfortunately lost both … we were not even tackled up for those fish …

We left at about 5 pm …
Place is really great …

kumz -pls post pics
