Snuck off to the Vaal early and fished the morning session with Herman below Parys. With the DWAF website stuck I would hesitate a guess that  the flows were between 40 and 50 cubes. The day started off extremely slowly, with very few fish taking the flies. Fishing the deeper water I managed to hook a monster who knows what, that took my entire flyline off the reel before snapping off my leader. Serious power there, I reckon it was a papa bear barbel. Herman was fishing the upper slow pool because he had left his wading stick at home, chalk up one times strafdop. I decided to move upstream and Czech nymph the very fast water, which thankfully produced all my fish for the day - 9 yellows in the net, pulled the hooks on about 7 others at the net and had plenty on/offs. Flies that produced today were #16 black mayflies on the point, #10 Humpys favourite on control and #12 mustard caddis on a revolving dropper. Apologies for the lack of camera, I snuck a pic of Herman with my phone.

Yup, thanks Rory for joining me. A very frustrating day being sans wading stick and landing net , :craz:  and only 2 muddies landed and a barbell which took me straight into the fallen tree.
I shall be back with my 9 weight.  (bat (bat
If we caught fish on every trip, it would be called " Catching". We don't, and that's why it's called "Fishing".

Homes and myself done a quick arvie session at Silverstome yesterday. Weather was not the best and fished the best part of the day in the rain.

Day started with a couple on/offs in an area that had produced  in the past but none would stick long enough to land.

We moved up stream a few 100 meters and found a good spot that gave Homes his PB Yellow, I got a few nice fish as well including a rare Carp . Fly of the day was a Red hot spot Brassie fished higher up in the water column.

Yup, awesome day on the Vaal !

For me, a comedy of errors.. almost lost my landing net causing me to loose a monster that had me almost to the backing... then also had my reel come off the rod... Twice !!!! Once while fighting a muddie.... duh

Thanks to Kallie for fishing it out for me !

Was all worth it catching that beauty !

Rory, Oupie, Russ, Luke and I fished below Parys on Sunday. Flows were around 50 - 55 on arrival, visibility around 25cms.
Cut a long story short, Rory 5 in the net, Etienne 1, Luke a nice barbell and some others, me 2 on offs, and Russ nada.
The flows were rising, which normally means good fishing :dunno: :dunno: I am now  :dunno: :craz: :hnthnt:
Lets see what happens next Sunday at a completely different  venue and at constant flows.  w;k

Fished Vischgat with Hermann, Rory, Ettiene and Grant on Sunday. Once again lekker to be on the Vaal for the first time in 2015. Had my best day yet at this venue with 8 yellows and 2 muddies most of my fish was caught on a size 16 black nymph. The others also caught their fair share also mostly on black flies or chartruese control flies. Ettiene broke his new rod in with a decent muddie luckily figuratively this time :crzy .

My yellows ranged from about 100g too about 2kg with 3 fish over 1kg. Here are some pictures of the biggest one.

Super pics Martin, those fish are proper yellow. It never ceases to amaze me at how tuned in these fish are for small flies, even in that silty water they can still pick up those tiny flies.

Was a good day out. Fishing difficult as always but then Martin "Doc Cormorant"showed us how it can be done. And if anyone say we don't support catch and release, here is the evidence. Well done Martin.  :rck" (clap)
