Howzit .


So , I will agian , start to post , ect .


I have had a number of things happen , the past couple of months .


For one , car trouble , an a list of other things , that needed urgent attention .
My father passed away late October , and it really hit me , hard .


I would like to keep this content exclusive to , ultimate angling , and it will have a bit more than the normal , links ect post on social media .




Back to fishing .






We have have a few very good fish during the winter , but we also had about 7 weeks , which nada happened on the plaat , the odd , fish most guys blanked , and between 7 friends ,during that time caught absolute nothing .
Having fish in the area for more than 2 decades , and permanently , staying here tha past 8 years , this does happen , and you can be who , and fish what bait , the old salts around here , call it the wit weke .
Mostly underside fish , and the presence of lots of small grunter in the surf , which is not uncommon , but the amounts of them ...

A friend and also resident , was super lucky , when the fish was around, he landed at least two  10 kg plus white steenbras .
And one day he landed 4 really , really large galjoen .


Then COVID came .






Metaphorically leaving a blank space , due to COVID ...




So about two weeks back , we had some worthwhile , South Easterlies , I think I was the Thursday , it swung around .
Friday morning , another local , landed a large 35 kg Kob , sad to see , someone harvesting a specimen like that , but completely legal .
 The large fish was caught in front of b bord , the past few years , it’s a hot spot , it just seem , the fish , Kob and leervis , holds there in larger numbers ...


So I took a drive to the main parking lot , the dude are fine to get over , the issue are getting back , lucky did not get stuck .


Saw 2 friends fishing just , let’s say 45 degree angle from the plaat parking , when I arrives two fish one of 14 od kg and a smaller one of 4 kg , was lying on the sand hooks still in their mouths , rousouw was VAS , with what turned out to be a large sporting , full of gees .
Ann uncle Marius , got bitten off by an Elf , this was just before , end of elf season .


These elf on die plaat , are large and angry , if you can hook them , their size must be also be an indication , of how clever these large ones are ...
If you can hook them , you better watch out , when you get them in the shallows , then they start to preform , and 95 % of time will shake your hook , they are terrible to land , last year I hooked , a couple , 5 to be exact .
Did not land one , had 2 of the 5 right in the shallows , these elf are all between 4 and 9 kg .
I would not be surprised , if in the near future ones of over 10 kg will be caught .
The next day , was a Saturday , we could not get away but went on Sunday morning ,
Loads of people , a couple of drone guys too .
We Basicly fished 500 m past b bord on the plaat , we landed a white steenbras of 7 kg , released .
Managed two , 3 to 5 kg Braai sized Kobs , and got bitten of twice .


Uncle Marius’ , also got a large 30 kg plus Kob , last week .

Guys looks like the weekend there might be some Kob , or let me rephrase , tomorrow and maybe Saturday , there will be Kob around .


The only concern might be a slight Southerly , Friday night , going on forecasts .




We have seen some birds working in the shallows , small pods of birds .
I know for a FACT , here are loads of ancovie uo shallow and out on the banks , we also have had an influx of larger elf , all over the show , bitting us off , when we fish for spotties even .
From the manner they come and slice your bait , that it looks like a knife cut , one knows it’s elf .
We had the same thing happening to us , on die plaat , last week , but then you Get pulled flattttt, and ping , of .
These large elf , put up a very good fight , but low. And behold , you pull them into the shallows , they reallllyy. Don’t like it .
Last , year in open season , I hooked a few , but only twice , came close to landing them .
These larger elf , are here year round , most of them over 4 kg , to 10 kg .
Like mentioned , they are very clever fish , and does not get hooked easily , the fact they have razors for teeth also , does not help ...




KEEP IN MIND ELF SEASON ARE CLOSED .




Out on the sea , there was some Kob out past Arniston , for us in Struis to far , but our guys went looking for red fish , ans Goggas , on the 12 mile , big blue , local ski boat , landed a few ,not more than 10 xxl yellowtail , but saw tons and tons , of yellowtail .
It’s common , this time of the year m yellowtail byt the thousands , but lock jaw .
With a bit of east ,things will change .
