So an update on the weekends fishing,my first report ever. Struisbaai looked a bit dead on Saturday( 2pm high) so went to Agulhas water looked better that side. Got a small rockcod (yes thats a ngk spark plug) on my scratching 10 foot, then 2 small sharks, my friend Yul catching the 1st on his new adrenalin 14 foot, i was taking pics so i'm in none of them. Rockods were caught on 3 week old worm we dug out at Kommetjie.

Sunday we decided to give Arniston a try, but only having a 4X2 with diff-lock we only dared to go as far as the caves. Were there for a long while, 8 hours, lots of bites but no takes. Then eventually got two fish. Now i am used to Eastern Cape fishing, called mine a black tail,he (my friend Yul in pic) is used to Cape fishing so he called his a Kolstert. So we had two of the same fish but called different things,that's cool i thought. Fish caught after pushing tide on pilchards.

Decided to give it one last try on Monday morning, so went back to Arniston, same spot ,were there from 5am till 9am ,not even a nibble,but was treated to a great sunrise with lots of whale activity, we counted like 8 of them majestic beasts.

Apologies guys , my dad was extremely ill and in ICU , for 6 weeks .

I also , had lil time to fish .

It mananged a few throws , my self and Konrad , got messed up by an early morning cracker , we were short on bait , so the fever was short lived .

The sea was really big over the weekend , I know maruis got a nice steenbrass early mooring on Sunday .

I will for sure post more , I have lots of pics that heaping up .

Some mates fished the skins , we caught a bunch on good kob two days before the comp , some nice fish .

We got another kob smash between 5 of us on die plaat , biggest fish was rousouw , with a 21 kg fish ... this was last week , I literally fished myself into deep trouble ...tomorrow might a ago day ....

Yesterday , 4 very large galjoen was landed by one guy .... saw it myself . Big fish .

Yes!! I believe there has been a bit of action on the Plaat.

We have been enjoying the harbour the last couple of nights. A good number of Kob came out on Monday. I caught a 10.2kg & a 8.6kg, both on livies.

Im away this coming week in Hermanus, Hoping to enjoy some good fishing that side while i'm gone.

But when im back we should definitely go and have a few throws.

A few Cob are coming out in Struisbaai, both at the plaat as well as at the harbour.

I caught this 6.3kg cob on Tuesday evening at around 11pm at the harbour on Live Harder.
My friend Trompie with his Spotted Gully Shark.

Excuse the blood, this one was for the braai.

Sjoe Lenny, thanks for this thread. A few questions if you don’t mind. At die hawe, do you catch harders off the long or short pier, and at what time does the skuite come in? Are you the oke who rides his bicycle with the engine on die plaat, i think he goes all the way to De Mond. Is there anything to catch higher up in the Heuningsnesrivier? I heard there are Zambies in there. I want to get some sinkers and squid from you. Dankie!

Chicken,

Harders can be caught from either Jetty, depending on the tide though. Harders can also be caught in the slip to the left of the harbour at high tide. Ships going out and coming in are very much tide dependent, as the harbour is very shallow at low tide. As for Heuningsnesrivier, Lenny will have to shed some light on that, as I don't fish there at all, but locally I can perhaps assist.

Zambies .... nah man ... I have spent many many hours around that river the past 20 or so years .... never heard or got chowed by a zambie . Giant buttery rays do enter the system , and have heard of spottie too.
