Let's take it from the parking lot at die brood . So you leave the parking lot turn left towards aghulhas you're now in spookdraai , a very fish able area , also a shallowish gullies long one running into the sea vertically , you'll be able to see what I mean when during past there on LOW TIDE .

The species present here to , from time to time good baardman can be caught along the sandy patches . Some large steenbraase are also in the mix here , they love a bit of scattered rocks and sandy patches .

Ok so you went past the welcome to aghulhas sign .

First left , tar turns into a drifts road , you are Basicly heading back in the direction you come from .

Please keep to the tracks as there are kiewiete that has nests and chicks there , please be on the look out for them , and please keep your dogs on leaches here , let's be kind in this regard sto nature .

The top image n the right had corner you will see a White House , the second image are taken from there . The area between these two are spookdraai as discussed above .

The second image , you'll end see those ruggies or rock ridges , you fish from there obviously also on low.

There are two or three of these ridges , one run in much deeper .

Turns123 has been very successful here .

Again , kob / crackers , elf , galjoen , in eds .

Also a place were you can hide frI'm the howling wind .
Konrad also a forum member hooked a raggie there early in December . He must have threw that bait inside its mouth , because he was on quick. He pulled the day lights out of him , and got sliced of on those sharp rocks .

General advice for the area .

Bait , there's some bait available to buy , but to be honest , I only get some very good tjokka locally .

We tend to collect our own bait , what ever it might be , there's also a few manne , that wil pick and cut your redbait for you.

There's no substitute for the freshest bait y can find , and keeping bag limits regarding fish in mind , you do not not need a bucket of crabs to catch you're 2 crackers ....

If you fear running out of bait , wen collecting them already , relax .
It's part of fishing , the day you have 5 cracker baits m you'll end get no pulls , the day you have one crab of questionable size , you get pulled flat first cast , you end up loosing a part of your crab , have to panel beat what's left of the poor crusteans , with what ever you can find , a limpit , a couple of snails , or cover it with redbait , next cast VAS . Some you win some y loose , it's part of fishing .

Regarding die plaat and bait selection .

You need to understand , you want to fish h down there on or after a a couple of days of Easterlie or south easterly , then I assure you there are mullet net table and spottable from the sand . Ask Betty he knows , but be aware you need to go in EXTREME STEALTH MODE I MEAN ON ALL FOURS .if you approach these mullet , they see you , and sound .
Wearing something that blends in will count in your favour . But I see the on all fours , or a type of leopard crawl will do the trick , the thing is they often so close . But you have one chance . use it wisely
Remember when they are thick and you can see the shoal , you only need one proper net , and you have your 20 mullets .

Awesome posts Lenny!

From my side...all my pbs have been caught in struis...there are fish there guys...undisputed!

Conditions are critical but if you time it right it is carnage.

The area around the brood...from the pinnacle on the left to the bay Lenny mentioned on the right is some of the most productive water around...SE and fresh bait is key...easier fished on low tide. But you will always always get an enquiry here...

edibles in abundance...elf, kob and poensies om fishbait. Lots of kob are shoal kob though and under 60cm...as this spot is east of agulhas. Its one kob and 60cm...so lots of releasing. Elf are always plentiful. Please stick to bag limits. And inedible are all over the place. Really worth a throw!

Otherwise the plaat is the way to go....large variety of species...here a bit of effort on bait collection goes a long way...any serious mission should not be attempted without moonshine/bloodworm or prawn. Finish and klaar. Fresh bait is key.

Fish to expect when conditions are good...summer SE, winter after a strong NW and swell and current subsides...kob, steenbras, belman...winter nice gallies. You will get kob on bloodworm. With a gooinet and some livies big kob, big elf and the odd leery.

plaat is saturated with sandsharks so personally fishbait and chokka unless it is in the dark is a waste of time. Tons of decent inedibles. Smoothounds, diamonds and raggies making up the bulk.

my catch rates go up significantly for edibles if you have rolling waves and minimal current. If you can fish good formation with fresh bait and a cone/pyramid sinker with gentle swell movement...you will definitely get a pull!

Posts like this make "fishers" believe it's only a matter of getting to "Struis" and "gooi" and you will land the one PB after the other.

Don't believe these blown up comments "STRUISWAAI" can also be very difficult.
You will blank more than often.

Hey bud

take it as you see it...if conditions are good struisbaai cooks fact...if conditions arent great you will struggle. The more you fish the better you understand the conditions.

And if you just rock up and fish you will get dispondent...do yourself a favour plan a trip around the correct conditions, plenty of Internet sites to help with planning. Get the correct fresh bait and put the hours in...you will be rewarded.

With work and family I have to plan carefully and honestly even if i am there and conditions are not great i wont even bother to fish...

But when its on its on...that is the beauty of the place :)

I find it strange that I share , and get others to share , I was ver reluctant to start something like this .

My experience , are of 17 years of fishing a struis , must count for something . 4 of which I live here permanantly.

Turns123 has got it .

No one ever said it was easy , no one ever said , cast there and will get fish .

I often suggest on this thread were the fish are , were or where you should try , this is all contained within this thread , and surfing shark I know you have read this thread extensively , as you're 7 posts over the last couple of years was Basicly all on this thread , you have also contacted me , I s net you my number , extended invites , but heard nothing from you .
Also yesterday , whilst doing this thread I saw you viewing this topic .

If you read carefully , you will see , I make mention on the wind , and suggest place you can try and places you should avoid and what to expect . I have often suggested place to fish , knowing something , that's to the advantage of the person .
If you don't take advice , there's nothing I can do about it .
For example the guys want to fish de mond the surf , first thing you have to know , if the swell is big don't go , but if you insist on Pickering down there , and try to slide for what ever ect . Take the responsibility of your decisions .

I however can only do that , I have , and continuously try to encourage other members to share , even if you blank . We have nothing from your side besides scepicism and a post every year you have been a member .

I also have a number of incriminating photos of weekend fisherman from Cape Town , I could easily be a mamparra , and stir by posting them and create a bit thing .
Frankly I don't need to be on here , I don't need to update this thread .
And I don't need politics , or beef in any way , shape of form .

My invite stil stands , come fish .

Struisbaai is still one of the top fishing destinations in SA. The diversity of the area makes it fishable in most conditions. Sure you will get days when you are going to blank but if you know where and when to fish you will reap the rewards. Lenny is a top notch angler that knows the area well and I salute his willingness to share his knowledge. Remember, you can fish a spot but if you don't know where the honey hole is you are going to catch nothing. It is what makes fishing so exciting, to experiment until you get it right. There were no false perceptions created of fish just waiting to get caught.

I can just ad. That there is fish in Struis as we all know. Although I haven't been lucky in Struisbay I WILL always go and try again and again. As I know I will get that big fish sooner or later.
I caught my PB raggie in struis.

I have mates that fish Henties every 2nd year or so and let me tell you without the help of the well known guide there is a very strong possibility that they would and have blanked.

If I may add my 10 cents

Struisbaai can be unforgiving at times ,trust me I know but here's the thing ., you can't expect to fish one spot or from your vehicle and expect Struis to deliver ....doesn't work that way . Struis is like any other coastline in the country ,conditions ,swell ,water temperature plays an important part in choosing your spot , you can't go to the plaat in ice cold and clean water and expect to catch a 25kg Kob , It doesn't work that way .What I do know in my almost 30 years in fishing the Overberg is that if Struis water is not good ..fish suiderstrand ....You got to be prepared to put in the hours by FOOT and not from your vehicle , get to learn how to read conditions and especially read the water ...Here is a great tutorial on UA by reefs to study .I almost never go home empty handed be it a nice kollie or gallie (in season) or a sized steenbras . Always remember to fish for what you need to consume and not fish to feed the country,return all small and undersize fish for the next generation to enjoy ,let's face it ...by cutting the head and tail off an undersize fish you only left with a backbone and skin that not even the neighbours cat will enjoy .Be responsible and stick to bag limits or below .

The 5 species was cooking last weekend . A big kob of 12 kg was one of the winning fish .

Some small galjoen was caught .

Some nice baardman landed

And some steene, biggest 7 kg .

There was also a large kob landed by a club angler think 4oac by die dam fish of over 24 kg .

Myself and Gerard are hitting die plaat the weekend , but it seems like we will have to try another area as the swell is building up .
