Agree Lenny. Asking a question on the open forum give answers to every one reading the post. Pm only answer one guy. Kob on white mussel is not out of the ordenery.  They also like a white mussel and pink prawn combo. Water here on Gamtoos is also cold and wind are strong. Waiting for a west to pull the surf straight. Lots of small leeries in the river.

Lenny you are spot on...more than enough information on this thread.

My 2 cents...december holidays

Struisbaai and surrounds most versatile fishing area:

Broken down into the following categories:

Novice / very social angler:

Spots: the harbour, suiderstrand, bait sardine and chokka...target species elf and kob. Water colour important  for kob, not so much for elf...fishing first light and dusk...harbour at night. You will get some action.

Social angler prepared to put im more effort:

edibles

Kob , elf and musselcracker. Include spots like the brood basically any working water with colour. Fishing around lower tides. Sardine and chokka, musselcracker crab, alikreukil and redbait. First light and dusk. SE good wind mustnt blow too long.

inedibles

argonauta to langezandt. At night on low or pushing tide. Diamonds smoothounds and raggies. Mullet and mackerel baits. If conditions are good. Swell not too big and some colour you will get action. Please use the right tackle to avoid breaking off or bite offs.

serious angler.

Plaat live harders...target big kob and big elf. Throw harders in the foamy sections...water conditions caused by SE. Fish colour and be patient. Reading the sea helps but there are always a few holes after the last set of steps at langezandt to the B board.

Put the effort in and you will get fish...

Have fun and enjoy!

Hi guys is there a different set of rules (laws) for fishing east and west of I would think the lighthouse with regards to bag limits on Cob and Steenbras?
I was told that you can only keep one Cob should you catch it on the plaat.

So here goes a bit of my Zim Dollars. Bare in mind these conditions are favourable to me , so might differ to other anglers

Wind : South East

Bait : Sardine , Chokka , Sand Prawn , White mussel, Redbait , Bloodworm

Target Species : Kob , Steenbras , Cracker , Blacktail , Wildeperd , Elf/Shad

Water Reading is essential in determining what species is to be target ,eg...Kob loves brown water and Elf/Shad loves Blue/green water . so its important to make up your mind as to what will be targeted for the day , Struisbaai is versatile as a mixed bag can be targeted off one spot, so get your tides right , read the thread and memorise everyones input , The more you read ,the more you will understand and memorise the pointers and your strike rate will go up !

Happy holidays and stay safe

West of agulhas - Bag limit is 5 kob per day

East of agulhas - Bag limit is 1 kob per day

Its important that you are aware of the regulations regarding bag limits and size per day , your local post office or tackle shop should have the brochure of regulations !

Lenny, we saw a boat being checked by the inspectors and it took them about 15 mins to count the fish on the boat. We could not see the fish but the skipper was in a very good mood. I can't remeber the name of the boat. It was a black "catamran" hull with 2 50hp Mercury engines.

Herman, ek weet nie hoe lank ons hier gaan wees nie maar die weer lyk wonderlik. Miskien 2 dae. Of langer.

PH, ek vra want daar is 'n kans dat ons dalk tussen Kersfees en Nuwejaar 'n draai daar kan maak. My Ma-hulle is op die oomblik saam met my suster-hulle daar en het gesę die weer is mooi.

Lenny, nou is ek darem lus vir 'n Geelstert braai!!
