Hi guys

Had the privilege of meeting Lenny this weekend. We cruised around sat morning but mother nature did not bring her side...rain and gale force winds cut our mission short.

The wind pumped from Friday evening until I left at lunch time today...so saturday was a write off...up early this morning...wind still gale force...thought screw it im only back in struis in dec so im going fishing. Picked one spots we scoped out the day before for kob. Fished the dropping tide...caught catsharks throw for throw...being summer and all decided to try for a cracker and was finally rewarded with a fish.

 No monster but a good end to a lekker weekend. Good old struis!

ITs always lekker to meet other fishermen , and scheme ideas for the future .


I can tell you guys , that it was howling winds , and big seas , when that pic was taken must have been later as it looks 'pleasant' there , buts I assure you guys it was not .


Anyway , my Sister landed on Thurdays and My dad 65th Bady made things tight .
Woke up early Sat morn , went  down to the spot , to kills some time , as Turns 123 , was still sleeping , and I could not contact him , and did not want to hoot in from of his house .  So I dropped him a Text , and went to die Plaat , to see if some of the Comps guys was there .... Low and behold a bakkie stuck on the loose dune  , ands its still early ... It started to rain now , Thought now problem I tow them out , A guy by the name of Graig , came towards me , Popped a ball joint and they are VASSSS in the sand , he needs a 17 spanner and a 12 mm nut .
He gets in , we pick up Turns 123 , get the tools , and get a Nut ' commissioned a nut '  Drop him of with tools , we then headed to the spot , did not look to bad , wind howling rain ext . I went to go shown him another area , and we made our way down to Suider strand , there was a couple of guys out and about , later saw a few comp guys at , Suider . and early morning the guys went vas in Skulpies baai , don't know what thought .


We ended up not fishing , but had a long chat and some time to talk fishing too . I think the next report with Myself and Turns123 will be a bumper one .

Was a lekker weekend none the less. One day we will time that conditions are good...thats when struis cooks! Looking forward to our next mission!

Summer and the summer fish are here . Weather does not look to bad . Long term forecasts looks very promising for around the end of nov . 


If there's flying ants , it's believed that the summer season has started , and another one if you begin to see puff adders , we got swarmed by Nost by flying ants . And the past week seen a few puff adders . Last year there were not as plenty as this year . Let's hope it's a real good fishing season too .




Wind has been in all directions , but seem to have cleared up . A number of areas washed open after this week big seas and heavy winds . I was keen on fishing tomorrow , but I have urgent and stuff to attend to in the city  .  I want to have alook and see if those big grunts are here , stalking taktics .

Not Much to add .


Pulled a session for Grunters last week , was planned on linking up with Nick , but somehow we misses each other , I most of the time leave phones at home when fishing at night .
I blanked HARD , but in my defence i mis judged the tides and moon .. So it was very low .


I do know the water might be too Warm , and offshore if cooled down again . A couple of Geelstert yesterday , not in great numbers of Sizes .


A Boland event was on and it seems we have no one from boland to add what happened , pity .


Theres still some good colour all around , but grass in some areas are also a problem . There will be Crakers around with the warm water , as a matter of  fact , all the usual suspects should be around .
I have not yet heard anything from De Mond Side , the swell has been big and then its a no go . as for the river We had some late rain , but I think its worth a pop , We are already in late November ...

Arrived at struis on Monday and pumped some moonshine worms and hit the plaat at langezandt while I waited for Konrad and Schalk to arrive. After a sandshark and blaashoppie I got gatvol of the wind. I genuinely looked like I had been piling sand into my hair to see how much it can hold (a huge amount is the answer. I could have made windows for an entire house from the contents of my hair). After that I emptied the sand dune out of my open fishing bag before packing up and going to find Schalk and Konrad. After finding them we fished a bit in the area just past the harbour about 1km along. Water looked great. It was warm, brown and nice and churned up. I managed to get the great grandson of the smallest hound in existence or ever to have existed. It was maybe 1kg. While we were fishing Konrad's dad had been spinning at the harbour. He caught and released a small elf. I swear the water was at least 19 degrees and a beautiful colour. Extremely choppy but no power to the waves. It was fantastic. Its just the wind that was the problem...


We then went and had supper. After that we waited for low before splitting up to get red crabs and bloodworms. I finally got my first bloodworm. I knew the theory but finally put it into practice and got one.  A bit later while geting a couple of moonshine worms I got two more in one pump. I was pretty stoked about that. We got back at 00:30 and then slept until 03:00. We then fished about halfway between Struis and AGulhas until about 06:30 when the tide turned. I had managed 1 barble... Went back and had breakfast at which point we slept until 11:00. We then tried in vain for more bloodworms. Just as we got back to the harbour Konrads dad said he had got a chase from a leerie. Myself and Konrad grabbed spinning stuff while schalk went back to the rocks to try for a Cracker. We got chases cast for cast for about 30 minutes but the leeries seemed so intent on fighting eachother for the lures they didn't actually take it. I had 3 proper hits but failed to pin them and konrad hooked and lost one. They were all in the 40 - 60cm class. Just as the action had died we got a call from Schalk saying he had just landed a cracker. We jumped into our vehicles and raced over to where he was fishing. We found him still trying to revive it. After 20 minutes it died which we were all pretty bleak about, but hey sometimes it happens. It measured at 7,8kg. We fished on a bit until the tide turned when we went to go get supper. After supper we stayed up to about 23:40 when we went to go get red crabs on the low. Once again we got to bed at about 00:30 and then were up again at 03:30 to try for cracker on the push. The wind was pumping. We put our rods in the stands then sheltered behind a dune. Didn't see any action but when we reeled up both my hook and konrad's had pieces of crab leg hanging off the hook with everything else gone. Strange. At about 07:00 we went for breakfast and then slep til low then back to the harbour to spin for leeries. They werent around though. After that we hit the plaat in front of Langerzandt with livies. Konrad got his first ever decent fish from the surf, a 5,8kg kob which was safely released. The wind then picked up and the water cooled and that was all the action we had. After this Konra'ds dad and Schalk left. Myself and Konrad did a night mission to the harbour with prawns. We sat at the 3rd light and at first just got more blaashoppies. I then moved to a dark spot along the pier. I immediately picked up a 35cm sand steenbras which was fun. Thats all the action we had though. Once again got to bed after 00:00. The next morning we were so tired we slept through the alarm. We woke up to a howling NW and rain so didn't bother to go fish. At about 10:00 we finally met Lenny. Had coffee with him and talked fishing (all kinds) So nice to meet you finally. He gave me a very generous gift of various tackle (including sinkers, jigheads, windons, paddletails circles etc). It really was incredibly generous and I am hugely thankful  . After Lenny had helped me jumpstart the bakkie because the lights were left on (thanks for that by the way) we went to go get prawns so Konrad could fish once I left. I then packed up and went home. Apparently Konrad fished with Lenny Friday and learned a huge amount.


In spite of the wind it ended up being a successful trip even though I didn't get anything decent. My time will come.
