Red tide here as well, the sea looks like the Vaal dam.  :-(
Hi,SAFish,do you know if fish bite when there is red-tide?If I'm not mistaken, there's a decrease in oxygen in the water during red-tide... :dunno:
Sorry for the late reply, Lofty. It will definitely have an affect on the fishing and generally the fishing here is a bit slow at the moment. Apparently it cleared a bit during the weekend.

Thanks for the updates, Lenny. My Brother was in Struis this past weekend but I heard nothing from him yet.  :dunno:

I Think its high water temps , than make the algae bloom , in such a extent , that you get redtides . Just like warm temps make the Sea weed grow very fast too .

Hi all...from my side been in struis a couple of days. Only one undersize galjoen on agulhas reefs. Tried for some kob/elf yesterday afternoon on the push...very quiet. Conditions look good though...some colour and temp not too bad. Got some moonshine worm and mussel and going to go and scratch on struis reefs on the push. Overcast, drizzle and a little skop in the water. Will post if anything exciting happens!

I fished there Saturday with two friends. We are all fly fishermen and are still trying to work out this rock and surf thing, mainly how to cast over 100m. Anyway we bought a big mackie from the commercials coming into the harbour to use as bait. We fished the beach first turning after the caltex leaving town. we just waded in until our chests then cast about 50m. All 3 of us got solid pick ups. 2 of us got burned off and one of us managed a 206cm raggie measured to the base of the tail. He got it on a 14ft exage 4 - 6oz and a torium20 which amused the guys who knew what they were doing no end. One of our burned off fish was landed by a cob angler when the slide trace tangled in hid line. it was about a 30kg bronzie. I am now properly hooked. After fly fishing worlds all my money is going towards casting lessons, tutorials and tackle.  What a day out for 3 newbies!

Nice post David!
That is the problem with fishing. It's highly addictive - not to mention the  :ult: forum. :hehe:
