Hi Lenny

How are things looking that side. Is the sea still big.
How does it look for fishing this weekend.

I finally had the pleasure to meet Lenny yesterday at the harbour wall and although brief it was still great to meet him. I am sure will meet again soon for a throw and a proper social.
Currently the wind is blowing from the West and it should flatten the see a bit. The sun peeks out from behind the scattered clouds and I hope it gives us enough time to get the washing dry. Last night there were still a lot of thunderstorm activity all around but things are definitely looking better towards the weekend, just in time for our departure back to Knysna.  :-(

The weather looks better today, the Westerly is still blowing but the forecast shows that it will calm down during the day. The sea is also better and the weekend should be good. Some Kob came out from the bricks but the wind has kept me from making a throw with my light tackle.  :-(

Despite , the Grunter , and a couple of Elf  , I havent been to heavy into fishing from the side .
But have some info and reports .
Theres been 3 Leeries landed and Released , fish from 5 to 10 kgs /Livemullet
I know of a couple decent sized Cob , 5 to 8 KG range , they are all over , occies and Livemullets.
Thers also been some Hammers around .Oh and the occies are plentyfull , youlle quikly get your 4 legs .

Bad news , the Water is Gin Clean , and lots of Grass still in some areas .
The wind however has picked up SE agian , and the colour will come , It looks like From Sunday / Monday it ON agian .

And heres the good news , I went on a couple of Trip out to sea , 12mile ect . The first run started Last Saterday , 4 to 6 bins , on every boat I saw Comms[ this is 2 to 4 tons per boat  . The recce must have all got Quota , not bad size fish , but lots of Rats still .
So I made a few calls , spoke to some mates , and got site on a Chukkie [previously I have been going with them and its always lekker , ust slowwww, Travelling at the speed of smell . but hey I got my Three bins , beter size fish , less rats . this was Wednesday last week . We had to make a plan to get some more occies , as the Silvers rip of any bait as you drop down , the bigger fish tend to hit the jigs , and even on Handline we took a bunch of them too .occy and Pike seem to be a Fav to .
I basicly came home , showered and when to bed for about 30 hours , I was stuffed .

Went to bed Very early on FriD , Hit the Harbour at 2 , and THICKKKKKKK into BUS Yellowtail ,2 hours later  from the Start , proper fish , I dont think I saw one fish under 85 cm , here and there a Braaisize Tail , but most of them  was 90 to 100 cm fish . the larges one I saw being measured was 111cm . most of the boats did very well agian between 5 an 8 bin man/man .
It was the first time I have seen these size fish so thick  and so wide , we drifed for 3 NM away from the pinnicles on the 12mile and we were still Thick into them .
I did well but was sleeping for the rest of the weekend , and waiting for my hands to recover , the fish have turned agian , but It seems Maybe monday is a sea day , and the fish will go BESERK agian .

I also saw a guy land a big Duckbill in front of Nostra on Thursday .
There is some Elf active , one's and 2's .

A bin is 50 kg , The buying price is very poor[locally R6 .00 and the 'incomers' from outside langaan pay , 14 to 16 Bucks per KG ] hence the guys smokkeling .

Just out of intrest I checked in my Book , the last time we had those small fish was on the 8 th of December , and then a bigger sized fish on the 23rd of December , ever since then its 5 kg plus fish . I will make  a couple of calls , and get back to you .

Sorry I was in Vermaaklikheid visiting a mate , theres no reception .

UPDATE : I have not been in Struis today , but early we had some rain , and a Strong SW wind , actually picked up and now its howling . Yesterday about 12 Deckboats / squidboats  was in the bay , that means bad weather and big seas . This mornig early some of them left , But I think they will be back tonight .

The water is GIN clear and going on reports , tomorrow we will have a SE wind , but being realistic I dont think its gonna happen , as its still raining .

I want to put in some time at 2 places but both of them are full of Grass [ I think its got something to do with the Warm water that makes them grow super fast ] One of the places close to Spookdraai , just started to clean up a bit , and we had the Bait , a fresh occy and loads of Proper sized livebaits , when we rocked up there there was 2 guys VAS , one guy landed a nice Gulley Proper one would reckon in the region of 20 kgs , the other , lost his fish but he told me It was a Raggie   .

Also the Elf has been scare , and ther Gunters too . The Otter on the Harbour is back , so watch your bait and Catches , lying around .

If I can just get his Gate painted , I can get some proper R&S done , I still have that  Occy .
So my Synopsis , are Fishing is poor now , but the fish is hungry , and they will be back , couple of SE Days .

Sylvester , No luck in those class fish . all the fish are above 4 KGS , so I will keep an Eye open , but this reply means make other plans . Sorry .
