Struisbaai updates and reports .
« on: September 26, 2013, 07:40:21 PM »
So here we go .
I will try to update this with current info regarding Species /weather ect .
For the guys that has my number and are planning a trip up here , give me a call, or a PM .
I am still trading , see the Forum Thread .

This is whats happening , Actually alot are happening , both from the Shore , and in the Deep , the First Yellowtail has showed up , not in very large numbers but current efforts will have to stand down until the weather improves .

From the shore there was a comp , with some good Steenbras [ winning fish 6 point od kgs ] Belman , Galjoen ,too . A very large Galjoen was caught before the comp by a Local guy , looks like a well over 3 kg fish I am guessing as I have no weight on the fish [ I t did make the local paper as did the Yellowtail reports]

From other reports , there has been plentyfull Size Galjoen in Brandfontein , and it seems like the fish are more abundant further down  from Agulhus Suiderstrand areas , this I have heard form a few guys .

Wind has been hampering Kob fishing efforts , but theres light in the tunnel , windguru /windfinder show me that he wind swings around on Monday , seems like a favourable pattern for some action .

Word has been doing the round of very good Steenbras on die plaat , this I have  heard anumber of times the past two weeks , September is a very good time to get those really big White Steenbras.

Bait wise , Worm , the large Galjoen mentioned , was caught on Worm .
A big Weather system are coming in , reckon the weekend wil be very poor condision , unless, your after a big Steenbrass hunt , eith die Plaat , or Brandfontein , somme that first bay , good place to get them .

Hopefully I will have a gap to make a gooi , and a couple of pics .

(clap) Thanks Lenny. Please keep the reports coming.

Lofty, I hope you get well soon. A friend of mine went for an all nighter on Wednesday night but only managed a couple of small sharks and one size Elf.

I have mostly fished the harbour wall as I have not learned the other spots and also cause I used to fish with my wife, so it was a safe option.

Its amazing the variey of fish one can pick up on either side of that wall.

Am sure Lenny gonna be showing me some new spots this season though!!  w;k

Struisbaai must be one of the most versatile angling destinations in SA. It is one of the best areas for R&S fishing as well as boat fishing and launching from the harbour makes it easy to get out there. The sea can get rough and it is best to go out with someone that knows the area. Seventenths has got extensive knowledge of the area and I am sure he will be able to advise on any off shore related queries. What I like most about Struisbaai and surrounds is that you have access to good fishing spots without walking yourself into the Guinness book of Records!  :hehe:

Theres a very specific reason , why areas like  Infanta /De hoop / Arniston / Struis have such epic fishing , and theres similar areas in ZA , which proves it . All will still be revealed , when I have a bit more time on my hands .

And when I have recovered , the New Fireline I had to buy yesterday ...

Good thing you got going here Lenny

Most a winning specimens caught in the comp was at Soetwater, where u have to walk you in the Guiness Book of Records

just some advise is try to avoid brandfontein during and after a storm, as the swell is huge ,rather fish struis and agulhas in the bays thats sheltered from the big seas

Good spot infront at Brandfontein, but you have to work your way through all the young steenbras to get to the big boys !

Tight Lines

WR

Dare to be great..or you never will be.

Struisbaai thread a great idea..especially coming into summer.

Little something to add..we got gallies last weekend on reefs around pietie se huis in suiderstrand...all on VROT rooiaas...had mussel, wonderworm, bloodworm. Not a touch on anything else. With conditions similar this weekend im sure there will be a few around.

Reefs to the left of skulpiesbaai also producing some small cracker and galjoen.

Cheers
Shaun

Lenny, I know the feeling. Red bait is normally so abundant that when very little wash up it becomes like gold ..... Galjoen Gold!  :hehe:

At least you can have some lekker Chokka 'n Chips.  :hnthnt: Yum!
