Leeukloof Trip report 2013
« on: September 10, 2013, 12:23:53 PM »
This past weekend saw the Annual Fly Trip to Leeukloof, and as usual it proved to be Epic !!!

Friday morning saw Kumz at my place around 11, packed and we were on our way to pick up craig... Thanks to Kumz for being the designated driver !

We were the 1st ones there and after a quick unpack, we hit the main dam...

This was the 1st opportunity for me to try out the flies i had tied, and after a few minutes I was thrilled to get a hook up !!!
My Lake dragon worked !
 :yipee:

And... My 1st Bass on fly !!!

I managed another one, and Kallie swore he thought i was reeling in a rapala.... It was that tiny ! :hehe:

By then, Doc had pitched up, followed by Rory, Russ Ettienne and Luke... a few minutes later, Darren, Craig, Petrus and the Shag arrived...
The fishing stopped as it was already dark, and we all got together for a few drinks and a braai...

The next morning saw us at the main dam again, and by then, Adolf, Charles and Abrie arrived...
Huge thanks to Charles and Adolf, for keeping us well hydrated...
 :cnfzd    :hyst:

A good few fish came out and heres one of Doc's 1.4kg

The release

Most of us retired for a small afternoon nap, and we were back on the water just before dark
The fishing was cooking now.... Abrie, Luke, Craig and Kumz all landed some great fish all in the 1.5-1.8 kg range...
I had a good few takes, but landed none..

With it now being totally dark, we packed it in and went up to braai and kuier....  The next morning, all the guys packed up and left and Doc and Kumz both landed good fish... sadly Craig and I never got to the water.... :frid
 :hehe:

Thanks to Dolf and Charles for the refreshments, Shag for the tuna Schwarmas and to all the guys for an awesome weekend, and to Big Van for the hospitality !!!

Bring on Leeukloof 2014 !!!

Some randoms....

To everyone that attended the Leeukloof Trip, thank you so much. Even if i blanked, this picture tells a story on its own...

Homie - a fly jacket is for carrying flies and other fishing gear - its not a holder for beer bottles!

Nice to catch a fish on your own tied fly!

:envy , nice catches Guys and perhaps 2014 will be an even bigger event.

This could have been a bigger event if only we had known about it so no known annual outing.

Seems it was organised on the quiet didn't see it discussed on the forum. Maybe they didn't want it better attended, will have to go fish the Point Road Banterers Club Challenge.

Tops this trip is reserved for the Brothers of Sin committee , you need to know the answers to the riddle “ If Homith could chuck wood , How much wood would Homth chuck “ and the secret  hand shake of the brotherhood.

Ziggy I have to concur with you, it is not for beer bottles it is kind of dangerous to keep glass that close to your body.
My fly vest can keep 2 cans and another in the pocket of my waders.
