I want to start using snap swivels when fishing with lures to make the changing of lures easier. Who uses snap swivels when fishing with lures? What brand of snaps do you use? Am I better of tying the lure directly to my leader?

Some guys like to use them

I prefer not to as i feel it effects the lure action... but that's my opinion

I use a rapala knot, i think it's the norm

Yep... Rapala knot allows the lure to swim freely as it is supposed to.

The problem with snap swivels is that they tend to do exactly that SNAP! I popped 3 open a couple of weeks ago casting a 2oz sinker and that thing flys like 200 meters. Would hate to see your onde onde do that. The only good snap swivels are centro and I think sampo makes some but only seen huge ones

I'm pretty sure the Offshore guys use different tactics to what we do spinning in the Surf. Think Snap swivels are more the norm in offshore stuff like Couta Traces etc etc...

maybe one of the Croc manne will help us out here...

there is one that is AWESOME cant remember what its called but a guy got a marlin on one awhile ago while useing a 1oz plug and 10 or 12lb powerpro it was in the skiboat magazine... it looks almost like a paperclip if you guys know what im talking about?

with the spinning thing and canging from spoon to plug asd then to a dropshot there is a way which works really well and i was taught this by Baryy Wareham. You have split rings on all your lures and jig heads ans on your braid you have your piece of flourocarbon leader and attached to that you have a permanent number 5 power swivel as i can pass through most guides on the rod. And when wanting to change your lure you just use split ring pliers and take the swivel off your one lure and attach it to the next.

IT really works nicely and doesnt change the action of your lure...and i does not sound as complicated as i just made it out to be! haha

Forget snap swivels, tie knots

If you do use snaps, you the expensive kind. I only use them on drift traces and mostly when they are hidden by the skirt. Knots will always be better but sometimes I am just lazy and other times it is just more convenient. A snap swivel is better than a bad haywire or a knot made in hast on a boat and not with care.

Rapala knot sucks, use a figire of 8 loop

No, it is a figire of 8 properly tightend pulling both the line and the tag evenly tight until they lock. This is an ultra stron connection and you can 100% control the size of your loop

as i understand, pulling the tag (once the desired loop has been made) locks down the knot, so it should not slip down and tighten (theoretically speaking...)
