Light tackle fishing off Dubai
« on: December 27, 2012, 02:23:22 PM »
On the 24th David his dad and I had a leisurely departure from Jebel Ali resort at 8 am the conditions weren’t perfect with a stiff breeze and the famous Dubai fog in abundance but the guys were chomping at the bit to get stuck into a bit of action.
We rounded the breakwater and were greeted by a nice swell running down the channel and a few birds diving in the distance, hammers down and the game was on! The guys let fly with a on the spinning rods with a Gummy and a pearl Dropshot and we were tight with the first fish of the day on the gummy 15 minutes after leaving the marina

David’s dad was soon in on the action on his drop shot as well

The rest of the day flew by as we chased birds up and down the channel the fish were a bit skittish so we positioned the boat upwind and drifted down on the feeding fish with the engines off when the topwater action went quite on the GT icecreams and Gummy lures we dropped the plastics down onto the shoals of fish we found on the sonar. We landed some nice Queenfish this way and were pleasantly surprised by two nice Golden Trevally as well

One of the day’s highlights was David pulling out his 10wt fly rod to get in on the action. He stood on the front of the boat and watched carefully while his dad cast out the needle nose as the lure came into casting distance he placed his fly behind it.  After a few false starts and some creative cussing he got completely smashed by a queenie which lead him on a merry dance around the boat before he landed it.

The cherry on top was a small Couta which the guys took home for a well-deserved snack
