Another relapse... a bulk of 30 rappies and halcos from lebaka (got rappies and hacks for the next 10 years at a steal - thanks Gary!) plus 2 island express and one iland sea searcher.... feels gooood!

I need strength fellow members, the Mrs and I are quite keen to head to Mazeppa in November however I suddenly realized that this would be prime garrick season and none of my existing setups are 100% perfect for this application.

Unfortunately we have a very receptive enabler on the forum. I fear the next social may result in a serious relapse with Fishatic :cry:


Not to mention I later found myself in Mias eyeing out the Penn Squall 60 Lever drag as a dedicated kite bait reel. Also for a potential trip which has yet to be booked :rotfl

So whilst in New York last week I thought since it was cold that I needed something to warm me up and got a few small items from the BAss Pro Shop in Bridgeport, Connecticut, yes it is another state, but it was only 29USD for a round trip by train :hehe:


So I got:
6 x Rapala DT 10's
5 x Rapala DT 16's
4 x Strike King Med cranks
4 x Rapala X-Rap Jerkbaits
8 x Packs of Owner bass hooks
6 x Packs of various tungsten weights
3 x packs of Strike king KVD Plastics
2 x Terminator Spinnerbaits
4 x Terminator Swim jigs and a pack of swing jig heads
A Berkeley tournament scale
5 x Plano tackle boxes
A spray can of Bang and coffee scent
3 x Seaguar Invisex Fluro
A pair of Danner tactical boots
A Goretex Wind/rain proof jacket
A Humminbird Helix 9 Mega SI G2N
Some quick release bung plugs and some other small items :dunno:
They were sold out on the Hydrowave H2.  :blush:  [size=78%]Just as well as I'd have to carry that in my hand as for the first time I had to sit on my luggage to get it closed![/size] :shk :rotfl

Marcos, packed most of the hard baits and hooks/weights into the tackle trays already, but the other, except for the boots and jacket will be easier to take pics of. So I'll do that.


What i just cannot get my small stupid brain to understand, is why we have to pay so much for stuff, the same stuff, here as opposed to what those guys pay!!!!!!! SHOCKING
 the total spend was around R32k which is still R3k less than what just the fishfinder cost here! And the boots and jacket were 149 and 249 USD respectively which translates to R5,2k.

The cranks (everything really) except for the Humminbird is 3 x cheaper, the Bird was only half the price we pay for them here, but still a bargain and what a Machine!!! Yes it's the US model so, no changing units of measurement and time zones (we fish in imperial units in any case, sooooooooo?) just not sure what the GPS portion will do, but even if it doesn't give me the 100% correct location (the Helix 7 on the bow does) then that's fine, as I figure a waypoint marked will always be the same, if the internal GPS is out/wrong, it'll always be out or wrong even when I return to the marked waypoint.


However, the second gen 9 I just bought has a very powerful and multi-frequency transducer that cycles through the various frequencies to enhance the imaging both down and side, and boy does it show!!! Also the 2d sonar now runs with CHIRP, and that is also much much clearer and more detailed without cluttering the screen!!!

the colours on the pad is slightly less vivid as on the head-unit, but here's some pics of some of the simulation screens. The detail is just WOW!


Can't wait to start creating on the water maps of some "Spots" I know always holds fish, nice thing about this, is no more recording, saving, removing memory card, starting PC, importing data, creating map, inserting zero lines card, exporting and then unplugging, inserting into the unit on the boat, then call the map and hope everything on the processing went well, and then on the water, one still needs to verify the correctness of the data vs the actual place.


Now I press record, save and that's that, on the water chart/topo/ and if I'm not mistaken one can even overlay the fresh map with some side imaging scans!!!

PS the Helix 9 also has Bluetooth, radar, instrument panel, 360 imaging, minn Kota link (iPilot) etc etc etc, most of which I obviously don't have the required accessories of and doubt if I'll get all of them in time, but really excited to go test the "upgrade" on the water.




Will get all the other stuff out the boat tomorrow and post pics, just one thing on the Plano boxe.


They are the 3700 series, the hooks and weight box is very nice, so is the dedicated spinner box, now I can easily pick a spinner without it tangling into the neighbors and the same goes for the crank boxes, the trebles slide into the narrowing at the bottom, albeit I can't get as many into one box as before with the older boxes, but no more tangling trebles!!!
