SEINE NETTERS AND CATCHERS
« on: November 20, 2012, 08:33:37 AM »
I was at the club on Saturday and was told that the Durban seine netters netted 55 garrick a week or two ago next to the Ushaka pier, is this true ??. Also they were not released ?
A bad days fishing is better than sitting at home moping.

Heard a similar story...

What is the history behind the Seine Netters and why does the DSBC have this affiliation with them?

And another story comes out about destroying South Africa's fisheries, im so sick and tired of these guys destroying all our resources. CLS did you hear what sort of size the Garrick were? 55 is a lot especially since they are becoming scarce!

The sooner these guys leave Durban the better for all in Durban, and better for fishing.

Agreed Mike, what really grinds me is that the DSBC accommodates them...

Someone in Kzn must find a conservation minded reporter and see if they will look into it. The sooner that this gets exposed the better. If the DSBC is part of this, they should be brought into the light and shown for their part in this. I swear if I was not in CT, I'd gladly get onto it. Ask the department of fisheries to look into it, someone must do something. If the DSBC have any involvement in this at all, the head of that club should be held accountable.

Chaps, i spoke to Hilton (DSBC Commodore) earlier because i didnt understand the relationship between the club and the Seine Netters, and to be frank I wasnt quite comfortable with it.

Bottomline is that there is NO relationship between the 2, apart from them sharing the same geographical location and using the same access. Unfortunately, the club has had to make the best of an unenviable position, but they have acted on certain issues which i did not know about.

If there is one positive to take from our club being relocated is that the Seine Netters will not be coming with.

Calm down a bit their bud. The club has nothing to do with this story. They just so happen to be close to one another and you go thru the same gate to get to the two of them. Before I forget you go thru the same gate to get to DUC and PYT . The club is now being mentioned just because they next to each other and that IS NOT RIGHT.
The matter of the netters has been tackled before many times and they still their. This matter has been taken to the so called right people before. And if they are doing something I dont know.
