WK by the way it is already happening only difference is that Aniseed oil is used with chokka baits.
I am definitely going to start experimenting more. In April I had a bit of vanilla essence and I was pulling out Blacktail after Blacktail and got a small cracker as well before it ran out, so it does work!

@ WJ - Nothing "wrong" with using additives i guess but its not allowed in competitions.

@ WK - Maybe my grammar sucks but it would assume you talking about all competitve anglers in your initial statement.

Dont mean to stir but its quite a statement to make esp if its in our constitutional rules that we cannot use additives of any nature.

I can see how it comes across now, but I was just referring to some anglers I know and not everyone... Sorry about that.

I had no idea that you were not allowed to use additives in comps though  :shk

Walks bru the additives debate has raged for ages now. Personally I don't understand it, if you add some sard guts to a chokka bait its ok but anchovy oil apparently isn't? I don't see the difference since both are natural baits. With the aniseed oil perhaps you have "disinfected" your bait board with some aniseed extract and it got on your bait :dunno: luckily I'm not a competitive angler or I'd be seriously unpopular :hehe:

True HP, but it could be regarded as unfair though!

Unfair to who, the fish or the anglers? The way I see it is that you use everything at your disposal, as long as it is legal, to win comp. With legal I mean something like aniseed oil not dagga or tik.  :lolo: Is it then not unfair for one angler to use a better rod than the guy next to him because it helps him cast further?  :vio :creep:

Great article.  :+ cred:
It looks like I have raid the kitchen before I go on my next outing.  :hehe:
Have you guys ever considered using food colouring to make your bait more visible? I was thinking of adding some red food colouring to my Shad baits.  :hnthnt:

I have tried a mix of red floroscene , Aniseed essence and Anchovy oil . With not even one bit over 3 different trips in KZN , EC and WC

I am stating to question where you fish when you come to KZN  :dunno:
Next time you here give me a shout will make a plan to take you to a spot where you catch these things at night  :geet
A wise man once told me life is to short for ugly girls and cheap fishing tackle!

Howzit WK... took my 6 year old son for his first proper deepsea trip 2 weeks ago. His first saltwater fish (other than bait) was a nice little Bronze Bream caught on chokka!!!  (clap)

.... will tell him to bring his carp dips next time we go out  w;k
