Title: Grinder captures from Australia
Post by: bradp on September 27, 2011, 08:24:27 AM
I have been using "grinders" or spin reels to target sharks off the beaches here for a few years.

I thought i would post some pics of some of the sharks I have caught on my grinders.

Small 7-Gill (Cow Shark) - Reel used was a Daiwa Emblem Pro 5500 with 20lb braid

Another 7-Gill - Reel used was a Shimano Spheros 14000 with 50lb braid

Thanks mate

Distance depends on bait size, but usually no more than 70-80 meters

What make braid are you using? What leader? Make, length and strength? What knots?  :tkx:

Inedibles
Braid : 50lb Finns

Leader : 80-100lb Jinkai Red shock leader long enough to have one wrap on the spool when the rig is in casting position.

Knots : Double uni knot to a short bimini in the braid.

Rig :

Edibles
Braid : 20lb Finns or 20lb PowerPro Depth Hunter

Leader : 40-60lb Jinkai Red shock leader long enough to have one wrap on the spool when the rig is in casting position

Knots : Double uni knot to a short bimini in the braid.

Rig :

Recently I have been using the 3 way cross crane swivels instead of the running sinker

Interesting...!!  :shre: ++cred!

I know that it probably seems a little primitive compared to some of the rigs/techniques you guys use, but they work.

Plus here in Aus we are well behind you guys and the UK when it comes to Surfcasting tackle availability  :caveman:

Those catches are definitely not behind us in terms of quality and as for the rigs, they can't be that primitive if they produce those fish
