This tutorial is designed to assist anglers in giving their reels a thorough service. In this Tutorial, the entire reel is comprehensively stripped and taken apart.
The Tutorial consists of over 140 High res photographs, that if you follow step by step, can save you some boodle and increase your knowledge and understanding behind the technology!
Certain parts of this Tutorial are not absolutely necessary to do every service - where this is the case, notes are made. Enjoy!

Dismantle the Drag KnobThis is not absolutely necessary as part of a routine service, but it is included here for a Comprehensive one.
Inside the Drag Knob... interesting that the little grey plastic surface is the part that causes all the friction for the Drag to work.
Remove the rubber seal...
This is the piece that determines how good and consistent the Drag will be over time... the Drag Spring.
The Drag Knob disassembled fully. Clean all parts, regrease and re-assemble.
I would recommend servicing one section completely at a time. In other words, finish re-assembling the Drag Knob before continuing with the rest of the reel. You will end up with too many parts and not remembering where they go. Put it back together while it's still fresh in your mind!

For those who want to go further into a detailed service... Let's go!
Remove the Retainer plate at the back of the reel.
The Worm gear and Bushing
Clean all parts in Benzine, either soaking or scrubbing with a toothbrush. Allow to dry properly, then brush generously with grease.
Make sure the Worm gear goes through the Idle gear and fits flush with the back of the reel.
Put the Wormgear bushing and Spacer back. Now screw the Retainer plate back on.
Now for the Drive Gear...
Regrease and replace the Main bearing on the Drive gear
A drop of oil can be placed on the metal weights in the centre of the Anti-reverse bearing. DO NOT put grease here... it will stop the bearing working.
To service the Drag system....
Inspect them, clean, re-oil lightly with a good oil like Shimano lube and re-assemble.
Don't use grease on these felt washers, they were meant to be oiled...
That should keep your reel as smooth as new for the next few sessions!
Now for the
LINE ROLLER - A spot on most reels that is most often sadly neglected.
The parts that make up the Line Roller...

To re-assemble, slide the bearing into the Grey Bushing from the lipped side. Then slide the Bushing into the Line roller from the thick side.
NB:
The Thicker side of the Bushing and the Line Roller both face the Screw side of the assembly.
Before assembling this system, lube all the parts with a good Oil.
THE OSCILLATING SLIDER
THE BAIL ARM MECHANISMThis part is VERY tricky to re-assemble. If you are uncertain, rather leave this part out.
Now you can unscrew the top screw...
Be careful that you don't lose the CLICK PIN AND SPRING WHEN OPENING!!
Now you can thoroughly clean the Rotor of any beachsand and dirt. Scrub all parts with Benzine, and regrease lightly.
This next step is extremely tricky and will take some time trying to align the different parts!
HANDLE SERVICEThe STRADIC has a serviceable handle.
To remove the Knob, slip a thin bladed screwdriver between the SHIMANO badge and the knob, and lift it out. Once removed, you can access the screws for the rest of the Handle Assembly.
