So I was excited... Left work and braved the bad traffic and rain to get to the Vaal Dam before sunset. Assalient and I got there in good time and quickly got our rods in the water. We met up with gavin erwin and our mate Sean. Not long after we casted our carp rods in Sean went away with a beautiful Barbel over 4kgs, little did we know when we landed it, was that it was going to be the first of 8 Barbel for the weekend... It was amazing before any of us had a chance to land a Carp over 2kgs, Gavins Barbel road and Penn

went screaming off, we had rowed all our Barbel rods out about 200 meters and were all rigged up with juicy ox heart... My aim for the weekend was to catch Barbel, but more of that later... Gavin was fighting a tough battle and about 20 minutes later, a massive 18kg Barbel was landed

it tied his PB and was an awesome fish... Now we were all very keen but deep down inside we knew the chances of another Barbel that size coming out were very slim... BUT! 45 minutes later

Assalient was in to a Barbel, he has always wanted to land a Barbel but has had a lot of bad luck previously, well he was in for the fight of his life... Not only was this his first Barbel, but it would be his biggest Fish ever and a PB that will be hard to beat, after much tussling and back and forth of gaining line and then loosing it, he got his prize! A 17kg Barbel

he was over the moon and was pumping with adrenaline for the rest of the weekend... My Okuma Classic

then went screaming away, and guess what? I struck the circle hook

I had the fish on for about a minute and it was very heavy! And then the hook pulled, suprise, suprise... After that the Barbel went quiet and we caught some Common Carp, Mudfish and Mirror Carp, some nice ones as well!

The next morning the rain had gone and the sun was beaing down on us... The carp and Mudfish were on the bite the whole day with some Barbel making an appearance every now and then... Sean started the morning off with an awesome Carp caught on extrememly light tackle that gave him a great tussle... Later on inbetween the smaller fish Gavin got his PB Common Carp, 10kgs on the dot, what an awesome fish, the picture doesnt do it any justice!

The final day I had to leave at 10am, so we were up early and caught a few more fish of all sizes and species... The highlights were Assalients first Mudfish, some nice Carp and Seans 3kg Barbel caught on a live crab.

Another awesome fishing weekend!
