Trevor fantastic capture and well done. It is only a matter of time for a Grander. Earlier this year a similar sized fish was released on Blackwatch (give ot take a few pounds). The grander will be around!

You worked it like a pro and I can only imagine the stress you went thru. Professional job!

Well Done on a great fish, saw the fish at the club.
Friday was a great day for fishing at Richards bay, saw some nice tuna and also another Marli of 290.4kg caught by the boat Scallas. also that great Couta of 31kg on 15kg line.

Very interesting about the full moon. I always thought that the full moon is the best time to fish and for many years planned my trips accordingly (still do).

But what was very interesting in Kenya recently, when we fished pretty close to the full moon, was the comment by the local skippers that the full moon was not a good time for bill fishing, especially sailfish.

We saw a lot of Sailies out early morning and then they went down from around midday. A number of the skippers commented that when they see the sailies in the local nets they know they will not have the best catches.

Apparently the fish feed very actively at night during the full moon and therefore the action during the day is limited.

This made sense and confused me at the same time. Have you experienced any similar trends?

Please note, my knowledge of billfishing is VERY limited, so I might be way off.

Like tides & winds and currents I think the full moon is contentious issue, many believe fishing is slow during the day at this time as the fish will feed during the dark hours

Me I dunno  :cnfzd

sorry for the hijack just thought its an interesting thought

Great catches BTW  :cgrts:

No offence taken but by "Me I dunno" I mean I have no idea which is better. Funnily enough I have read that some of the top Cape Tuna fisherman do not prefer the full moon. The pole boats that stay out for days witness the feeding freenzies during the night and by day its dead quite.

Dont know which pole boats those are but Ive done a lot of fishing down there too and the same applies. Weather is an issue over the full moon as our strongest fronts often co inside with the dark and full moon periods.

I agree with you Prego. It is of my opinion that dark moon (new moon) is a lot better for all forms of fishing.

Fish feed a lot at night on the full moon provided it is not overcast and thus do not feed as much during the day. I have experienced this from dams to sea shore to deep sea, and yes I have fished and lived with the sea all my life.

New moon beats full moon for day fishing and visa verse for night fishing.

Prego, think I was the up-county one  :hehe:

No offence taken and sorry for the  :topic:, will start a new topic on this one.

Just interested to hear the various opinions as I always try and plan my fishing according to the moon phases and tides.

It is now becoming mroe challenging with trying to get R&S and Offshore in the same trip

Thanks George
