Reel Magic Charters action and updates!
« on: January 19, 2012, 11:16:12 PM »
:fshn: Looks like the girls are lining up again with good water and plenty bait and birds doing their thing. Boysz from Cape Town released an awesome blue of 500 lb going 1-3 with a bruiser destroying the teazer and one not hooking up. Water blue again and looking good!! :billf: :geet

I've heard vague rumours of a near Grander marlin coming out off Rbay recently - any idea if there is any substance to this rumour?  :dunno:

Been some cracker blacks in the 300 kg range but no granders...yet! We have had 2  blues in the 500 lb range and lost a very good black and are waiting patiently for the big girl to arrive. This season has been special and as the bigger fish come in later in feb/mar we may see some really fat ones!

What a great bunch of guys from the Cape. What a pity the fish were a bit quiet on the last two days and we didnt get all of the guys a fish. Rich got his 500 lb and Clive his Dorado he had been looking for but the girls got shy after that. Why it is that the guys who deserve a fish and appreciate it dont get and the charters who have no idea and no appreciation get plenty I have no idea...next time guys! Thanks for a great few days ..what a pleasure to do charters with guys like you.

Broadbill trip around Tugela banks yeilded nothing on Sunday night, great evening without results. Water probably too warm now will give it a go later on in Mar. Dropped 2 marlin on 30lb tackle on the way home Mon morning so they still about. Looks like no fishing till Mon next week as the weather moves in..good time for a rest and maintainance!

Difficult when u fishing 24-7 but will gladly post some info when i have the time! what would u like to know thats not the usual technical info out there. We all have our own way of doing things that produce results, fortunately i have had the opportunity to watch some of the best lure fisherman ply their trade and use interesting variations that work for them. What works in one area does not necessarily work in another so one adapts and the process takes shape when u have a good amount of data to work on. In the end it boils down to getting the basics done well and then making other adjustments which take time and experience on the water and are the difficult things to convey and are often those kept to oneself! Basically the guys who spend the most time on the water and observe things carefully are the best at it.
Putting your boat in the right place is the most important factor of them all and this is the most difficult to teach because time on the water and an affinity and understanding is essential to success!

Life after the cyclone
« Reply #16 on: January 31, 2012, 07:10:39 PM »
Been a long wait but finally got back on the water on Sunday in 6-8 meter swell. Dropped a blue on 30 lb and landed a nice Dorado. Was out again today and got 2 nice wahoo and a good Yellowfin just short of 40 kgs. Quiet on the marlin front, but still a good swell running..may need time to settle. :wahoo: :yft: :wahoo:

Out again today on an absolute jaffer with the boys from Ellasras(spelling?). Man it was good to be out with a decent barometric pressure and  a swell under 4 meters.. and the girls enjoyed it too! Went 1-2 on blues dropping one on a jump off before hooking a nice blue that ran us ragged before tail wrapping and going down very deep.  2 hours of plaining to get her back up. Unfortunately she came up dead after an epic battle. Still a great fish for our ninth first timer this season. A 450 lb first fish..not too shabby. Looks like the girls are over the cyclone too :rck"

Trevor, thank you for a once in a lifetime experience, you’ve  made my dream come true. There are no words to explain how much this meant  to us. You had gone out of your normal routine to accommodate us and for that  alone we can't thank you enough, and then to put us on to two marlins for the  day is truly an honor to fish with a guy of your ability. Your enthusiasm on  the boat and your dedication to get us on to the fish is something not everyone  in the business has and I will recommend you as far as I can because in my eyes  you are the BEST and you look after your crew more than anyone I had ever been  out on the water with. What turned out to be a disaster of a holiday you had  turn in to the most perfect ending for anyone. You surely deserved your t-shirt...
