Blyde canyon??
« on: September 08, 2011, 08:04:55 AM »
I have a voucher to stay at any Forever resort and one of the options is Blyde canyon. Their website lists dam fishing as an activity but no further info is available. Tried google but can't find much.

Anyone know what fishing can be done at / near the Blyde river canyon?

If nothing, the other options are Loskop and Gariep if one wants to take the boat & rods with.

Hi Adolf,

Also wanted to give Blyde a go... Fishing is there and on a few sites it says good fishing available...

I emailed Blyde Forever resorts and forever resorts asking them about the fishing there with no response. Dont know what sort of species they would have up there in the Lowveld though...

Gariep is a tough venue to fish unless you know where to go, whereas Loskop is still my favourite spot and if you have access to a boat the dam wall produces big Barbel and Mudfish!

Thanks WK.

Also e-mailed them, will see if they reply.

Loskop is a beautiful area so I won't mind going there.

Hopefully they get back to you, if they do please let me know what they say. Loskop is beautiful but by the looks of it Blyde is as well! Wherever you decide to go I am sure it will be great!

If you can get to fish in the dam itself you will be able to get plenty off Small Mouth aswell as in the river. Iff you like your fly fishing. You are in for some serios Yellow Fish action.

Those used to be my stomping grounds before I came to Natal and thats where I honed my fishing skills.

Thanks Fritz

They don't seem to reply to e-mails so I phoned them yesterday. Unfortunately no fishing is allowed in the dam. The "dam" they refer to on their website is in fact a little pond.

I found quite a bit of info on fishing the river for yellow fish, sounds like a great fly fishing experience with beautiful surroundings.

Unfortunately the only fly i can use is the one on my trousers so the yellow fish are safe this time around.

Wow, that would be great!!

I'm not sure when we are going, the vouchers are valid untill July 2012 so we still have lots of time to plan the trip. I will give you a shout when we have decided on a date.

Once again  :tkx:
