Exceler Rod and braid help please
« on: August 31, 2011, 12:23:17 PM »
Hi There...

Im in a situation where I have a daiwa exceller 4000 reel.

Im looking to purchase a Daiwa exceller rod (Dropshot and spooning for elf or garrick and kob) im not sure If
I must buy the 10 ft of the 10.6ft.

The 10ft take 1/2 - 3 ounce i think
AND the 10.6  take 1 - 4 ounce i think.

Ohter   question, I want to get a good braid, want to get distance but it needs   to be a good quality.I wanted to buy fireline, but guy from australia   told me better to go with braid. I dont want to waste money unnessary.

Can you please help me?

Conrad... don't think 6" will make a huge difference in the rod length... but the longer one will give you more distance and more range as to what weight lure you can throw? Depends what you're going to be doing more with the rod - dropshot jigs or bigger spoons and plugs??

As far as the line goes... Fireline fused is still my favourite, much stronger than most other braids, but very expensive. HMP have just brought out a Casting Dyneema Superline/Braid which is also fused, but at 1/3 of the price of Fireline. Saw it at the Boatshow and it looks awesome. Contact Gremlins.

good stuff. You think 20lb is perfect for the reel(exceller 4000)? using 2 ouce spoons

It's controversial, but that's the max you should have on - it's what I use. Some guys even go 12lb and lower.

definitely the 10'6", it in combination with my sustain 5000 were my best friends in Angola.. If you're going fireline the 14lb is the max you'd want to go. Its plenty strong and tough. Then tie a 0.40mm casting leader onto the braid and about a metre 0.60 (or more area dependant) onto your lure.

the 10'6" doesnt cast 4oz very well but you can launch a 3oz into orbit with it

i have a 10.6 exceler paired with a exceller oceano 4500J.

i find it well balanced and light and it is easy work working the banks/ reefs etc. it throws 2-3 ounce jigs and spoons with ease up to 80m+.

the longer rod does make a big difference in terms of working the tip vs my 8foot daiwa megaforce.

its harder work. think about where you will be fishing am what distances you need to reach to get to the fish. :fshn:
release today...fish tomorrow
