Boschkop Dam, Potchefstroom
« on: August 21, 2011, 06:59:28 PM »
This is a great dam for the bass and sm yellow fishermen and ladies.

There are 2 entrances, one at the inflow of the Mooi river into the dam via the Gamepark gate. the other on the other side heading to the yacht club.

The banks are heavily overgrown with reeds, however there are spots open where you can fish from the bank, however make sure you are there early ( from the Game  Researve side ).
I have never been into the area from the Yacht club side, so can't comment. :-(

A boat or an inflatable of some sorts will help a lot. This is a large dam, with the best spots covered by reeds at the banks.

Entrance is cheap, ( +- R 80 for 2 from the Nature Reserve side ).

When I last fished it in Feb of this year, the Mooi was in flood and there was TONS of grass being washed into the dam.

Who know's how it will fish this spring w;k :hehe:
If we caught fish on every trip, it would be called " Catching". We don't, and that's why it's called "Fishing".

@ Schlossie,  Rory, I and anyone interested are fishing this Sunday. Early summer SM. The original  venue was the Prison. However after reading the latest reports of fish kills on Flytalk ( very recent ) in the area, I think we should move to Erina.
Rory are you reading this ??

Directions ,

On the N12 to Potch you have 2 options.
1st is at the Fochvile / Carletonvile 4 way stop, turn right, and then keep on going straight for about 40 - 50 k's. The road is not good, with potholes etc, ( Feb this year ). You will pass the dam wall of another dam ( the name eludes me ) where there is reportedly great Bass fishing off a boat. ( I did not say that, hush, hush venue  sry  ).
You will then see a sign somewhere saying Boschkop Nature Resereve. Turn right,go over the bridge and then turn left into the reserve. If  still on the road to Potch you see a small shopping centre on your right, you have gone too far.

2nd Option. Drive to Potch. At the robot ( 3rd one you get) just before the Mall, turn right. At the next robot, turn right and follow the road, following the Carletonville signs.
At the "shopping center ", now on your left you will see the sign to the Yacht club.  A few K's further on you will see the sign to the Nature Reserve and turn left.
If we caught fish on every trip, it would be called " Catching". We don't, and that's why it's called "Fishing".

Herman I would love to join you but the water is still to cold 13c, and I don't function well in cold water.

This is not only a great venue for Bass, but all species, including SM yellows. :corrct: :corrct:

And the SM are caught on fly. :crzy :crzy
